Kiwi 41's Versys down and out of action

Was supposed to have a weekend away on the bikes with my wife but 100 m down the gravel drive and over the V went.
A funny thing was when we started the versys up it did not go in to the fast idle for start up which I thought was strange and even commented to the wife about it, she took off first while I was still putting my helmet and gloves on and by time I took off she was walking back to me and the versys was in a heap on the drive ( did not get a photo of it down).

My wife tells me the v suddenly starting doing the warm up idle and she panicked as the small down hill was approaching and grab to much brakes and I think she did not think to just put the clutch in during her panic and bike was still trying to drive her forward in fast idle.

The next couple of photos show the skid marks in the gravel.

managed to bend gear level back in place but the bike is not ridable for her as the left handle bar is bent, no broken plastic and the barkbusters do their job.

My wife Keri is a bit shaken up and has a bruised knee and feels bad about crashing my bike but got insurance and everything is replaceable and a real good lesson for her on what happens when you panic in gravel. Will get her back on the bike as soon as I get the v fixed up so she does not lose confidence in riding.

A dinged bike is no big deal, dinged body and confidence is another matter.
When my daughter dented my brand new truck she was disappointed that all I did was shrug & buff out the scratches (she wasted a perfectly good dad is gonna kill me worry).

Sorry to hear about the "off" mate, but it's nothing money can't mend, & l'm sure the missus being a good Kiwi lass will get back to riding soon after her little skirmish with the gravel will it just be another lesson learned & dealt with.

Damn! Bad news Phil, but very glad your wife only suffered a few bruises and some bad feelings. I tell my lovely wife that scrapes and dents are battle scars - not on her, but the bike, that is. It's visual evidence the bike is being ridden.

And like Jeremy Clarkson says, "Those scrapes will buff out."

Oh thats too bad! But as said before, everything but Keri is replaceable! There is nothing quite like gravel to give you an "Oh Sh*t!" moment though. It has humbled me and my one son more than once and as long as she gains her comfort level back, she can chalk it up to experience. Chin up Keri!!!

Glad she is OK!! Better to have a slow speed panic and learn from the experience than a high speed panic...

Wish her a speedy recovery with her knee from all your buds on the Versys Forum!!

Glad she's relatively OK (shaken, not stirred), and she'll be back riding the Iron Horse in hopefully just a few weeks to enjoy the rest of your Summer and Fall....

Someday is not a day of the week.

Cheers for all the kind words from the V family and just showed Keri the global concern so cheers for the comments.

Her insurance excess is $500.00 and by the time we replace the bars, the plastic it will far exceed that so should be no problems at all.

Will have bike assessed next week and if it was not for the bent bars we would be able to ride okay.
See the left barkbuster pushed up a bit

Bars not straight now

Glad to read that she wasn't seriously hurt. The bike can be fixed.

Keri is good apart from a bit of a sore left shoulder, her leg is fine and think knee armour did its job. She would of been thrown to ground quite hard when she used front brakes on the move and bike went suddenly down to the left.

Thanks Steven for your concern, see Francis having a few issues on their ride in southern Thailand ( was nearly on that ride) Protestors blocking roads and electrical problems with his bike.
