New Owner

I am picking up a 08 with 20K+ miles tomorrow. It was used as a commuter bike, and all the maintenance was done on it. Itís in good shape.
Any advice or things to look for on a "new V bike" with that many miles.

BTW the forum is great and I've learned a tremendous amount. Thanks to all who have posted.

I would want to see maint. records supporting that claim or else it's "adios". But, if it was maintained properly and not abused, than the milage issue is insignificant.

One of the issues that popped up for some is the cracked front motor mounts. Here's a link.

I bought my Versys some months ago. It too was a 08 and it had over 20k miles. So far I've just had to change the chain and get new front brake pads. As said before, if its well mantained you shouldn't have any problem.

Besides the Ninja, there has only been one frame cracked, it was an 07. Post up if
it turns out this one is cracked, because I don't think this is a real issue.

I picked up the bike a few days ago and I am happy to report there is no evidence of the frame issue. So far the bike has benn great.

I would go through and adjust the clutch cable, throttle cable, and suspension to your liking.
There are instructions in the PDF service manual linked elsewhere on this site.

I know the stock fork preload is way high for your average rider. Turning mine out about 3/4 turn made a noticeable improvement.

Good advice. My throttle cable was all the way to one end of the adjustment. Needless to say, there was a lot of slack.

And welcome aboard!
