Luggage options for the V

Hey everyone, I priced up two givi sidebags and mounts at the stealership not to long ago. I was quoted at $1000.00 canadian. This almost gave me a stroke!

So I am looking for suggestions on soft magnetic tanks bags, saddlebags and tail bags. Please forward any photos you might have of your own setup.

Thanks

I have some of the Kriega luggage, and it's really nice. Aerostich sells it. They're a really great touring oriented outfit, and ship quickly.

I had a set of hard versys bags but then I wrecked them so now I have the brackets but no bags and I have found these that I think look really nice and will work well for about $170 I am ording a set next pay check. I found this picture on another blog on the versys and he said he really liked them.

$1000 Canadian seems high, not knowing the exchange rate. The Kawi bags are just Givi, so if you can do without the badging, order up Givis for cheaper. Heck, seems like you could get Caribous for cheaper.

I just got my first Wolfman bag today. Seems pretty solid. Should be a good choice.

If you want to go cheap, go with the Nelson Riggs Silver Streak.

I have a set and they come with rain fly.

Personally I went the hard route with SW Motech TraX panniers. They too are pricey, but great quality.

They are the 45 liter, I like to camp and went with the biggest. One side will hold my air mattress, compression sleeping bag, and the tent.

I also have the Trax luggage and SW Motech mounting brackets. The advantage to SW Motech's brackets is that you can have side cases and a top case. The standard Givi brackets supposedly won't allow for that. You can use the SW Motech brackets with Givi luggage as well. Twisted Throttle sells all of these brands. When I purchased mine about this time last year, they were almost identical in price to the Givi luggage, and less than just about any other aluminum luggage out there.

My brother just put a couple of Seahorse boxes on SW-Motech racks on his F650GS.
They're pretty nice and the whole setup cost less than just 1 of my Givi V35s.

If I didn't already have cases, that's definitely the route I would be looking at.

Well, if you just want something OK that's affordable, I got the Dowco 4-piece soft luggage set for about $100US from MotorcycleSuperstore.com for my Ninja, then moved them to my newer Ninja, and just put them on the V tonight sans tail bag so I could take the girl for a spin. They're fabric, but surprisingly durable and small enough to leave the saddle bags on when riding 2-up.

The prices on those seahorse bags seem to good to be true! The website doesn't have great pics. Would you be able to get us pics of them on your brother's bike? How did he mount them on the motech racks? How durable do they seem?

Norman, I ordered the Givi rack from my dealer in Montreal (Mistake!!) and then wanted the E41 on them. Givi Canada (Importation Thibault) wanted $900 for the set. I got them from twisted throttle for $650 Canadian shipped to my door. Look around the different supplier in the US and get them there. Just use somebody that ships USPS and not UPS or you will get hit with brokerage fees that add up quickly.

Does anyone have some photos of the versys with a manta tank bag. I think I want to buy one. But I don't know the size difference between the manta regular and the manta XL.

If you mean the Joe Rockets, I believe I have access to both. I have the regular and my bro has the XL. Tomorrow or Wednesday I should be able to hook this up.

This my Versys with Nelson Riggs sadle bags and the expandable tail bag. This is also a Joe Rocket Manta Tank Bag (not the XL model). Unfortunately, this rig turns my bike into a single seater.

I ordered the GIVI T421s and was just wondering- any issues mounting them without racks?

Thanks!

Thanks, I just bought a manta tank bag. I am still up in the air on saddlebags and a tail bag. I am thinking that the cortech bags look pretty good.

I have a Givi top case, and have their mount. I also have a mount plate on my KLR, so I just snap the case on whichever bike I take out. Makes it quick and easy to take rain gear and such along.
