A pilot's view...

If you'd like to see what an airline pilot sees when doing an approach in mountainous terrain (in New Zealand to Queenstown AP) have a look at this U-tube video.

http://www.chonday.com/Videos/pilotnewzdalnd1

What I will add, is that the video is sped-up (at least the final approach phase - OR - they landed at about 180 to 250 knots...), and I believe this would be either a GPS or IRS (inertial reference system) approach.

SPECTACULAR scenery!

Ed

Great pilots view, what is a great thing to do in Queenstown is a triple treat, start with a jet boat ride on shotover jet then at the end of the that get picked up by a helicopter for a scenic flight around mountains and pretty cool to hover pointing down at top of mountain then they drop you up at the Luge, http://www.redballoon.co.nz/outdoor-...FcYzpAodlSUAmA

Garage
Decending into a cloud with a mountain peak in view in front of you. That takes a major level of confidence in your instruments, and more than a little bit of balls. Cool video.

Always trust your cape.

Very cool but, I don't think I'd like to live in one of those houses that are right in line with the runway.

Most people probably could not afford to own property in Queenstown as its so darn expensive.
