Smile took the leap today

By 0930 hours I was at the local dealer.By 1030 hrs. I had made the deal, traded my '07' DR650SE.By 1130 hrs. I was home from a 20 mile 'spin' (turned into 55 miles),I could not help myself.I intended to do the moto man breakin.Well,so I will do a modified motoman breakin. After a rest,I have just 20 minutes ago finished changing the oil at 55 miles on the odo. After the heat here in Florida dissipates in another hour or so I will continue the breakin process. It's a tough job,but it must be done,(sigh). Anyway, first impressions is I love the bike.I cannot now imagine why I would need to have waited for a 1000 cc model. The thing is a blast power wise. The 1 thing so far that seems wrong, for me at least is the shift lever seems too short. It needs another inch to inch &`1/2 in length.I will get accustomed to it I an sure. Also I just don't see how I personally could possess the self discipline to break it in according to the owners manual method. To you who have that level of self control,I salute you. Well number 2 on my list of things that seem odd is how the foot pegs line up against my legs when stopped, feet on the ground. It is much different than what I am accustomed to.Again I will adjust I am sure.Well, thats about it.Now to wait for cooler temperature for the evening breakin ride.Cheers..............Lefty.

Right on, haw paw... I had the same impression about the gear shift lever. Before my first ride, I bent it out a bit, with a small screwdriver handle wedged in between it and footpeg mount to avoid stressing lever mount. That and raising it a bit with adjustment did the trick. I also had to raise rear brake lever considerably with the adjuster.
Footpegs also touch my legs when I stop, but they just swivel up, and it doesn't bother me with the tall boots I wear.

haw_paw, where are you in florida? Anywhere near Jacksonville?
I am looking for a versys owner near jacksonville fla to help with a seat project.
Sargent Cycle has made a template from my stock seat and needs to test it on the real thing.
I'm 600 miles away.

If interested in helping, email me.

Same here - shifter was to low and my boot kept getting caught and the rear brake also was tool low and I had to pirrouette my foot to get the brake engage. Everything now nicely adjusted the way I like.

Enjoy that new Versys - what a blast!
