Low Speed Off

Well...I was riding to work this morning and at a busy little dog leg intersection in some back streets near my home, a young lass decided to pull out in front of me, needless to say i grabbed a handful of brake, but as it was a little damp I locked up the front wheel and dropped my V on its side.
Luckily just some minor cosmetic damage to the fairing and bent handlebars. (i was in the market for some Protaper's ATV Hi's anyway)

I'm kicking myself however for not getting those H&B engine protection bars, as the have been on my list of Farkles since i bought the V

Its also unfortunate that we don't get the ABS version in Australia
as that could have saved me it this situation I'm sure.

now to tell the wife .......doh

Sorry to hear about it, but it sounds like you got off relatively easy with no injuries and no damage to parts that aren't fairly easy to work on.

Can we expect another sweet 2-tone paint job when you fix your fairing damage?

Candy Yellow?
Probably wouldnt look good without some other yellow trim/accents though.

Silver might not look bad given the silver lower pieces.

You could always start a poll, just don't let Ahmadinejad count the votes.

I could always drop it on its left side and go for the 2 tone Scratched look..
i think the issue with 2 tone would be that i would need to paint the rear 2 pieces and the front fender as well, to make it look any good.
I'll probably just remove the decals on both sides and match the color.

Ah, the great car drivers of Sydney.

Might be worth checking out how much this is likely to cost compared to your insurance excess, when I dropped my previous KLE there did not appear to be much damage but repairs were over $6k thanks to the cost of Kwaka parts.

My bike was insured with Insure My Ride and as it was less than a year old they replaced it.

I think that its always going to be a tricky call to say that ABS would definitely have saved the day. it may well have done, but in reality unless there was an ABS bike on the same raod at the same time faced with the same conditions y'just don't know.

sad to hear about the incident, something expleted deleted cager's

I don't think the damage done will put me in the 6k range Rybky.
(although my buddy on a duke wrote his off with just a minor slide.)

I think because it was wet the damage wasn't too bad and the 'Barkbusters'
took the majority of the fall damage.
The handlebars were bent in and back a bit which made the ride from the incident to work and then back home interesting to say the least,
and the brake pedal was also bent in a touch.
(quite disconcerting when you go to press it and its not where you thought it would be )
Unfortunately there are no Protaper ATV Hi's in Australia atm, so I'm getting a OEM bar from Kawasaki for $104, so i should only be off the road for a day or two.
back to work by train now

I spilled mine Friday in the rain so I feel you're pain! Glad you're ok. I finished putting the pro-taper bars on mine and they're nice. They feel a tad forward of the original bars but I think that's because I still have some minor adjustments to do. Even nicer is that I didn't have to put bar-end weights on them. With these bars the mirrors are crystal clear.

Hi Sambamboo,

Any accident, as long the pilot walks away without injury, all is A-ok.

Glad to hear your A-ok.
Looking at your pic, painting the cowlings to match your black will get a looker.

I think that would look good only if you taped off and painted the outside wedge shaped face of the side fairing black.
Honestly, I dont think the full thing in black looks good. It doesn't look like it was 'meant' to be that way if that makes sense.

If the front and back of that graphic were tapered to match the contour of the versys fairing that would look Supa Fine.
