Thinking about buying a Versys

Hello everyone I am new to the forum and was thinking about the Versys as my next bike. I am coming up from a ninja 500R and the local dealer has them for 7200 OTD is this a good price or can I expect to be able to get them to lower the price. Thanks for any information.

I've been going to my dealer for 6 months and the same green versys I fell in love with is still for sale. Maybe I'll buy it at the end of the riding season. Don't forget the tax rebate if you buy this year (2009)

Depends on where you are, but that is a fair price, not a great price. A Local Minneapolis dealer has them for $5,999 (before fees, so OTD is higher). This dealer is not known for great deals. There was an 08 in Iowa for $5,500 OTD, might still have it.

Don't let the dealer talk you up because of the Tax Rebate. Why give that rebate to your dealer?

Just do it. $100 here or there makes little difference in the real world. Buy. Ride. Enjoy. Repeat.

I noticed a couple of very good priced almost new Versys in craigslist in CO. (right after I bough mine from a dealer :-( ). You might be able to pick an 08 under $6k or an 09 with farkles under $7k. You are close enough to make the trip to CO and ride it back home.

Thanks for the information everyone. I did not think I liked the look of this bike until I saw it in person and it is growing on me.

I am really happy with my Versys, but I have to ask why you are considering trading the EX500 for the V? If it's ergonomics or you want a better bike for luggage or 2 up or even if you just want one because......well, you just want one then that's all good.

OTOH, if you are looking for much of a performance boost over the EX500, the Versys isn't gonna do it for you. I have both and although the bikes feel different, the performance is almost IDENTICAL. Depending what you read;

Versys: 59.4hp, 398lbs, 1/4 mile 12.96 @99mph

EX 500: 59.1hp, 373lbs, 1/4 mile 12.98 @99mph

I'm not bashing the V by any means, I just don't want you to spend your money thinking your getting something that is a big step up in performance. Now the ZX6R..........well that's something completely different.

Cheers
Dave
