Now I'm Happy :)

Just bought another Versys......

Long story, but the short version is I bought a DL1000 Vstrom for 2up riding with my wife...Today I found another Versys, and now we have both.. The top box has to go for every day riding...

The Versys is hands down my favorite bike in 40+ years of riding !!!

I would have bought a 1k V if I could have gotten one in the states. The Canadian price is too high to go up there and get one.

Steve

I bought a motorcycle because my wife said that I couldn't! Now I have two and she still says I can't have another one!

A dealer here has been selling off 2012's for $9999 and it would be a great ride home for you.

Nice green meanie!
This thread and Killbilly's thread bring home just how good the Versys is. Hard to beat as a one-up fun machine! I've been bike-sitting my buddy's 848 Streetfighter, I rode it home and it's been in my garage for 2 weeks. The reality of that bike is that it does almost everything much worse than the V. Either that or I'm just too old to get it.

The only thing I wish the V had was a smidge more power. Not a lot more, just a little more. Something in the 750-800cc department.

I was telling another Tiger-owning friend (who is also looking for another bike, but for different reasons) that I have a thing for unusual motorcycles.

Let's face it. Not much out there looks like the V. Gen 1 or 2.

Other bikes I think would be cool to have in the stable:

BMW K-1
BMW F 650 Scarver
Yamaha TDM 800
'87 Honda Super Magna (had one)
'88 Honda Hawk GT (had one)
Suzuki RF 900
First generation Katana
Britten V-twin
'57 Ariel Square Four

I like weird, slightly unusual designs. I don't know why.

The V definitely meets my "brutishly ugly" need in a bike.

The Tiger...some say she's got a face only a mother could love. I personally notice my heart beating a little faster when I look at her pre-ride.

I think I want my Tiger AND a Versys.

I don't know about the 800 GS(I don't want tube type tires on my primary road bike), but that Rotax engine is SWEET! My most recent road bike, prior to owning the V, was the F800 ST with the same engine. 85-90 hp(on the ST)and 6th gear is a true overdrive. The only reason I sold the bike was ergonomics.....too much weight on the wrists and the foot pegs were too high. I just wasn't that comfortable on the bike and I don't think the available mods would have made enough(for me) of a difference to keep it.

However, put that Rotax engine in the V, as well as the belt drive, and you would have the almost perfect all around street bike.....IMO.

BMW has dropped the 800 ST and replaced it with an 800 GT. It's basically the same bike, but with higher bars, lower foot pegs and a few other minor changes. I'm sort of afraid to check it out for fear I might like it....and it's nowhere near worth almost twice the price of a V.

Welcome back! I almost bought a DL1000 this past spring...dealer would have sold for $8500 which was hard to pass up but in the end that bike was a behemoth to me and the Versys picked me and seems to be a great fit for my needs.

So this confirms what I saw on Ride Ohio! Good to hear you came back to the V. It really is an awesome bike and hearing it from someone w/ 40+ years is great confirmation
