Used 2012 Versys valuation

I bought a used 2008 Versys a few years ago from a fellow forum member and this time if I buy another Versys it'll be a 2010+.

I'm looking at a private sale 2012 Versys with 1300 miles. It's totally stock, nary a farkle. It's never been dropped and only has a bit of normal wear and tear.

Here's the one I'm looking at: http://greenbay.craigslist.org/mcy/3930678569.html

KBB gives the 2012 Versys a trade-in value of $4,185 and dealer retail is $6,070. A few local dealers have similar ones for $5,500. This seller is asking $5,800, which seems a bit high to me for a private sale.

I'm not trying to rip-off the seller but I also want to make sure I'm not the one overpaying.

Has anyone purchased a used 2012 Versys lately or have any input on the best way to put a reasonable value on a used Versys?

5800 on that is a very good price. At least around here there's no way you'll find an under 2k mileage 2012 from a dealer for under 6-6.5k. I saw a couple 2010s at a dealership two weeks ago that were under 1k but listed at 6,900

Plus look at Kelly Blue Book and NADA guides...they're pretty high. I don't think that you should do any pricing based on trade in prices....you're buying not trading in. Offer 5k cash and see what happens....you'd probably get it for 5250 which would be a minor steal IMHO. Good luck!

Agreed, I just got a vibe from the seller the other day that the OBO is not far removed from the asking price.

If this one doesn't work out I'll keep looking. The new FZ09 is still out there as well.

I do have several dealer options but I generally prefer private sale for buying and selling used bikes.

The used 2012 Versys listed at one local dealership for $5499 sold in the past few days. It only had about 1500 miles on it. Another dealer still has a brand new 2012 Versys for about $6200. And yet another dealer has a used 2012 with just over 1000 miles for the asking price of $5999. It has a Two Brothers Black Series Carbon exhaust, Rox Risers, a second windshield plus some other farkles.

I may end up waiting until October or later to pick up another bike.

I usually end up somewhere near half way between the trade-in price and the dealer retail. My gut was telling me about $5K cash offer for this one.

Wow, those dealer prices are quite good IMO...definitely some differences in prices for the V depending upon region of the country I think.

Even his asking price of 5800 is a great price for a used 2012 with hardly no miles, plus no taxes. But if your not completely satified wait on the right one, it's your money. You did mention the new Yamaha coming out at the end of the year, that might be what is holding the trigger finger on the used Versys.

55mpg? Wish my well broken in, well maintained and moderately ridden V got 55. Otherwise, it seems like a pretty sweet deal.

Yesterday I rode 40 or 50 miles of dirt on the GREEN HORNET, then when I filled up (365.6 kms on the tank) I put in 14.277L. MY math says that was 57 mpgUS. (I don't "beat-the-hell" out of it, but I DO ride in a 'somewhat' spirited fashion.... )
