Exclamation Deal's Gap Lane Closure - 7/18/13-8/31/13

Just a heads up for anyone heading out to US 129 (a.k.a The Dragon). Tennessee Department of Transportation will be working to stabilize the hillside around mile marker 9.5. We have had a lot of rain in East Tennessee this year and had a small landslide about a week ago. TDOT will be using a traffic light to close one lane and control traffic. They hope to complete the stabilization before the end of August and don't plan to close the road completely.

If you are headed out this way, please keep this in mind and check the link below for any updates. I sincerely hope this doesn't cause any problems for anyone headed out this way on a trip.

That 9.5 mile marker would put it north of the overlook. A year or so ago there was a slide close to that mark.

We have actually had a couple of small rockslides and a couple of minor mud/landslides in various places but that hillside at 9.5 is a monster just waiting to be released.
