Another tire thread...

Hi all,
I've been reading lots and lots on the forum about what kind of milage to expect from the Dunlop Sportmax and I can see that it differs ALOT. Never the less I'd like to put the question about what to expect.

I bought my Versys las june and have now got 11800km out of them. It looks like there is plenty of rubber left but they are squared from failing to increase pressure when riding with luggage last summer.

I'm planning to ride aprox 4000km during my vacation and my question is... change or not?!

And, what tire preassure would you guys use when riding with luggage, I use top case with minimum weight in and paniers with about 5 kg in each)
And when riding two up, how much would I add then?!? (Weight would be 75kg+65kg)

Advice apreciated!If I do change tires I really want to look after it better, I hate when they gets squared.

I use to have a Ducati Monster before the Versys, and then I more or less always used two rear tires per front tire. Can I expect the same from the versys?

I would change them. See tire manufacturer's website for recommended tire pressure with a load, obviously never more than max tire pressure (cold) as marked on the tires.

As far as wear goes, part of it depends on your wrist! Have a great trip!

I run 36F and 42R on all the tires I've used. Most miles I've got from a rear has been just over 10,000 miles (16,000 kms). I'd change it, but keep it and you can re-install for the last few miles, later on.

I just finished installing my new Tourance 150/70 rear for my Alaska trip starting the 14th, and decided to clean the wheel, while it was off the bike. Then - what-the-hell, so I "detailed" it, and this is POSSIBLY the cleanest that wheel has been since I bought the GREEN HORNET as an '09 leftover in November '10, so here are TWO pics of it - I hope "Davey F" from Ireland takes note of these pics.... ('Course the REST of my bike looks a 'tad' dirtier....)

Heck...! I went for a ride this AM BEFORE I saw your post, so they are no longer "wall-hangers"....

But I DID wash the HORNET before the ride (probably LAST time for a month or so).

Everyone seems to change front and rear at the same time... the front tyre looks new... On my Ducati Monster I always used up two rears on the milage of one front... don't know if I can expect that now but it seems crazy to change the front already.

The rear do have lots of rubber left still to, but I do know that the last bit goes quickly and the square will be annoying itn the alps so I go with the advice and spend the extra money.

I attached pics of my tyres, no need to mention the chicken strips or that the rims are dirty - Im aware already

Forza - your tires look just fine to me. Normally my rear will wear before the front so I'll just change it, then do the front when IT wears out. I've run miss-matched brands quite often, and I changed BOTH ends this time because the Tourance tires are for dirt 'compatibility'.

I have 13 062 km's on the clock of my 2011.
I do not feel bad replacing both rear and front (as you can see, front is still good for probably a year/8 000 km's), but I have hated these tires since new, especially when driving on wet roads. Once in a while they let go, not that big of a deal, but it makes me feel uncertain where I have the bike.
I have a set of PR3's on the shelf now and will put them on ASAP.
Besides, the square itself on a bike tire gives the bike an unstable feel. So off they go...

If it's the stock tire and squared off... I'd change it, assuming I had the cash to do so. Stockers are crap and even more so if squared off. It'll feel like a different (better) bike if you swap them out
