New Tires!

I just ordered a set of Michelin PR3's .... and the wife isn't even mad about it.

I'm going to ride around Lake Superior is a couple weeks and depending on what I do until then I'll have about 7,000 on the OEM Dunlops before I leave and well over 8,000 before I get back home.

Decided I should probably swap them out first.

Ok, that is all, just had to share because I'm a little excited about it.

Happy for ya! Always fun to buy new rubbers (especially when you get to use them)!

I've got 13,000kms on my PR3s. I'll be swapping them out in July before a tour, but they are still in good shape. You'll really like them above the stocker Dunlops.

I just had a set of PR3's put on two weeks ago. They are very well mannered - smooth and sure-footed. Excellent choice for the V.

Someday is not a day of the week.

So PR3's are better than PR2's?

Hi Slow and Steady

How many miles do you expect to get out of your PR 3"s. I hate putting new rubber on a street bike every 5,000 miles. Currently have Avons on my Voyageur and expect to get about 35,000 klms out of them. I put 32,000 on a set on my old Concours and sold the bike with them on, still within legal limits.

Which way are you going around Lake Superior, clockwise or counterclockwise.

I'm not real confident in the stock tires. I will be switching them sooner than later. Been reading a bunch of reviews. Have it narrowed down to PR3s and the Bridgestone BT023 or their replacement the T30s. Leaning towards the Bridgestone since I don't ride in the rain that often. Anyone have experience with both those tires.

Hi Larry,

There have been quite a few threads about the PR3"s and like everything, it depends on how you ride on them. I have see quite a few reports of 12,000 - 15,000 miles. I've also heard of guys who ride in a very "spirited" manor as they call, it and have changed them out much sooner.

I'm leaving Ashland on Wed, June 19 with a small group and we will be going clockwise around the lake with a night in Nipigon, Sault Ste Marie, and L'Anse. The plan is to eat in Thundery Bay on Wed. night and then carry on to Nipigon before dark. You are welcome to join any or all, just send me a PM.

V.rider, the Bridgestones were my second choice.

Mitch

What made you ultimately decide on the PR3s over the Bridgestones?

Um .... a couple reviews put the PR3's ahead of the BT's for an all around sport/tour tire.
I'm going on a 4 day rain or shine trip, so even though I tend not to ride in too much rain, that did weigh in some.
My riding buddy also has a set of PR3's and is very happy with them.

Figured I'd give them a try and if I don't like them I'll wear them out and get something different.

Mitch
