Ice Races

Has anyone here seen motorcycle ice racing? I saw it on Wide World of Sports year ago, but went to the races outside Woodland Park, CO this past Sunday. What a hoot. The Pro and Vintage divisions were spectacular and very skilled racers.

If you ever get the chance to see live racing you gotta go. They hold races at Rainbow Lake for five Sundays starting every January for six weeks (they skip Superbowl weekend). These maniacs go 60 mph around a small oval on a frozen lake with spiked/studded tires. It is wild. I'll post some pics if my buddy will download the photos we took.

Back in the 1970's I used to ice race in Michigan. I raced both in a sidecar class and a solo class. The sidecar racing was the most fun I every had (with my clothes on)! We raced on Anchor Bay, on Lake St. Clair, and on an inland lake near I-94 (all north of Detroit).

Ice races every Sunday here in Mass, weather permitting. Hamilton Rod and Gun club, Sturbridge, Ma. Yes, you are right they are a blast. Use to run a Can-Am 400 MX6 on that track as well as a Banshee quad. You haven't lived until you're face is about an inch away from a studded knobby tire, in a full-lock slide, doin about 40ish.....!!!!!
