Deal's Gap motel

I've been to Deal's gap / Dragon many times but haven't stayed in the motel there. I've heard bad reveiws about the rooms. I'm not looking for a 5 star hotel just clean sheets and shower.

Has anyone stayed the night there? Thanks for replys.

I have stayed there a couple times. First time was back in the day before it was famous, before the rooms had tv's in them, they were getting pretty old and run down back then. Since its had new owners and has become a major destination the new owners have done some remodeling. Now its still no Hilton, but it works for me. I would put it more on the same scale as an econolodge or Super 8. The times I have stayed there were always clean sheets, towels and bathroom.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like we will be going up there either Friday March 29th to Saturday 30th or Thursday April 11th to Friday 12th, according to my son's work schedule. I'll let you know what days and maybe you could come over that way.

I wish I could. I won't be making it down that way till Memorial day weekend. Hope you have a good time and be safe!

I might could do that too on just a day trip. I've done that a few times, makes for a long day but it's not to bad. Send me a pm or post on the board when it gets close to Memorial day.

More fun than the Dragon, in my book...less likely to be overrun with squids and LEOs.

For those who've never heard of it before..........103 miles, mostly 55mph and some of the most scenic countryside you'll see. I have a lake house about 20 minutes off of 28/64 on Lake Glenville, about the halfway point. I'd love to join up with anyone who's making the run, shoot me a PM.

Moonshiner 28 is fast becoming one of the great must-do roads of western North Carolina. Everyone has heard of the Tail of the Dragon and now there is another comparable road that is less crowded and offers even more to the two-lane tourist.

Moonshiner 28 is a great alternative to other more crowded twisties. There are sections of 28 in North Carolina every bit as twisty as the Tail. Bonus .... speed limit is 55 much of the route.

Stretching from US 129 at the Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, Moonshiner 28 winds its way southeastward through Franklin and Highlands North Carolina before turning southward into Georgia and South Carolina at Walhalla.

Once one of the major runs for moonshiners with revenuers hot on their bumper, the road today boasts some great twisties, wide sweepers and unsurpassed scenery. Mountain vistas, waterfalls and secluded lakes appear around nearly every corner. You can find good food, accommodations of every type and unique shops with unusual antiques and crafts created by mountain artisans.

I have breakfast every non-rainy Saturday and Sunday morning at Deals Gap when the restaurant is open (March thru November). The Girl usually is on my venom yellow Tiger 800 and I ride either her blue Versys or my red white and blue 6th Gen VFR 800. We know every single road in a 500+ mile radius. I did 17K last year and I ride primarily just weekends and holidays, usually 400 miles a day average.

I believe I will be in FL the weekend of the 30th but if plans change make sure you say hello if you see us.
