Side cases and seat lock

Those of you with side cases - how do you manage under seat access?

On my 2011, my cases (Givi V35) are situated just barely so that I cannot get the key into the lock to unlatch the seat. I have to remove the side case to get into the under seat compartment. That's not so bad with the V35 since it has a nifty little quick release so I can unhook it from the top and let it lean against my leg while I unlock the seat and then snap the case back into place. Of course, every now and then I forget to remove the key and snap the case back and then realize the keys are now stuck in the lock - then I have to undo the Givi key from my key ring to get the case back off and get my keys out.

Anyway, my bigger concern is that I'm planning to upgrade to K-Venture or Dolomiti side cases and I'm certain these will interfere with the seat lock just as much or more. They also don't have a quick release, so they have to be opened to access the pins that hold them to the rack. Rather than spending a lot of time going into other case alternatives, I'm just curious how others might be faring with their own side case conflicts with the seat lock. I'm honestly surprised I haven't read about that more here already.

I have a set of shorter keys for the seat, though i still can comfortable open the seat with the side case on my 08 Verysys / Givi case with the original key set.

Interesting. Which rack and case do you have?

Also, do you happen know what key blank works for a shorter key?

Mine was OEM Rack and Case from Kawasaki, and no specific key blanks. I just got form one the shop that sell keys and got it custom made.

You can see my bike and case on the avatar image.

The OEM cases stay well clear of the seat lock.
I guess it's because you have different (bigger) cases on the bike?

I have an 09 so the cases stay closer yet. I use an aftermarket key that I cut down & added a side tab to worm my way in.

I don't know about that - I believe the Gen 1 and Gen 2 frames are almost identical. But the short key solution seems to be a solid one.

I guess it makes perfect sense that the factory side cases would be set up so as not to block access to the seat lock. However, since Givi makes those racks and the factory side cases for Kawasaki, it surprises me that the Givi V35 side case racks for this bike weren't also designed taking that into account.

I'm going to look into a custom key as a solution, though. Thanks to everyone!
