Reminder to use blue Loctite on your bolts to prevent vibration from loosening them

I was reminded the other day to do this when I noticed the bolt holding my driving light on was about to be lost and I later noticed a bolt holding my fairing on had been lost completely as it had vibrated out.

If you are not familiar with Locktite a little dab applied to the threads will keep them from coming loose with vibration. Blue Loctite can be loosened with some extra force, Red Loctite can only be loosened with heat and is more permanate.

Coming from a KLR this is a great lesson, that bike is a paint shaker in comparison, but any bolt holding something important gets a dab of the blue stuff out of habit now. Its not cheap though! It may be the small community I live in but its $8 a tube in local stores, cheaper on Amazon sometimes. Still worth the cost as a tube will last a long time even for an avid wrencher

And the red stuff can be loosed with a little muscle, doesn't always require heat, just good tools in order to not strip the bolt/nut/screw head its attached too.

Heres something that works too...Plumbers teflon tape for threaded joints. $2 a roll. Does not lock tight like glue but will prevent the bolt from turning out. Wouldnt use it on an engine bolt but good for other non critical fastenings..

Just be AWARE that 'Loctite' can affect plastic, so be careful to not to OVERDO it!

It's the old - LESS is MORE....
