This ISN'T scratched paint...

...this is something else. Noticed this last night after cleaning the Versys. I know it's not the greatest picture but there is NO WAY I scratched the paint. There's nothing I could have done to chip that pattern out. Looks more like oxidation or whatever you'd call it.

Not happy. I'll call the dealer tomorrow but, judging from my last Kawasaki "issue", I'm getting the feeling that my bike was a quick, "get it off the line and shipped" motorcycle.

Again, I'm admitting to not being well-versed in the Kawasaki tradition of (supposed) excellence but there was only ONE TIME that I ever had a bike with chipped paint on the tank. That was when my dad took my Volusia and set his snowmobile helmet on the tank and the metal chin strap buckle gouged the paint.

Really getting disappointed in Kawasaki. Hmmm...

My 09 is still shining like glass and not a scratch despite the long overland tour i have done. The paint has hold its elements in place. Yours may be a remote case..keep informed after dealers visit.

I’ve owned two Kawasaki’s. When I purchase my first one after owning a Honda I thought it wouldn’t be as well built. I was pleasantly surprised about the quality. However I would say that my Versys has little things that irk me, squeaking rear brake, oxidation on the rotors, sticking luggage. It’s just a bunch of little things.

Hope you get your tank scratch sorted.

What the hell are we looking at? Please produce a better photo. This one is just too abstract.

Left side of the tank, right around the bend.

Its a chip. I got a smaller chip on my tank when i was working on the bike and drop my socket wrench on the tank. I got the chip so i just pulled out a black permanent marker and filled in the chip. Don't even notice it now. You could have had a rock ding the area while out riding...Not Kawasaki's fault i hear small rock pinging off my bike all the time when out on the freeway.

To me it looks like a bunch of small circles coming from the rear, forwards. It's on the side of the tank and how the tank protrudes doesn't appear to be something hitting it while riding - as if that angle would be coming from a different direction.

I don't know, just looks way too weird for it to be a scratch. Especially with the small circle pattern. Looks more to me like there was something that melted the paint away.

But what do I know? Kawi already has a black eye in my book so I'm probably seeing this through very biased eyes.

When I see its position on the left side of the tank where we mount the bike it makes me think it was maybe done then.Something from jacket ,glove, zipper etc. Regardless, some touch-up paint and rubbing compound can hide it to an acceptable point. A black paint job shows marks the worst. Yea,I use permanent markers too but paint better. Or next winter remove the tank, strip the clear-coat and get it painted.

There appears to be like 7 round pits... Maybe something corrosive dissolved the paint, but it's more than likely chipped.
