Fresh Air Mod

Removing the air box for the first time I quickly discovered it was going to be a royal PITA, especially doing the install. While I was in there doing my initial valve check, I disabled the engine vapor recovery system, which consists of hoses routing air from the cam cover and crank case vent systems back into the air filter box.

I removed most of this Save the Planet system by removing hoses and blocking vent ports. The one port that needs to remain open is the crank case vent. I shortened the hose and installed a K&N filter so the crankcase will not ingest any dust or crud.

By doing this my air box and air filter stays much cleaner now since it is not breathing the air/oil mix coming from the engine. The big plus, however, is removing and installing the air box is much easier now. I no longer have to deal that nest of Anaconda's to disconnect and then re-connect.

That isn’t a “Fresh Air” mod. It is a gross pollution mod. You are spewing combustible vapors into the air we all need to breath, rather than feeding them into your engine where they can be combusted to provide more energy to move you.

If you feel good about this, then I guess there is no point mentioning how your engine is now running leaner than before (the F.I. Is calibrated with those vapors taken into consideration). Nor will I mention how a film of oil inside the air box will make any dust that gets past the air filter stick, rather than entering the engine and causing damage.

Congratulations! You have disabled one of the better advances in last century’s engine technology and partially created the pollution problem India and communist China are currently dealing with. You should be proud of yourself...

Thank you for the interesting fresh air mod referral and photos, hawkerjet... Make sure your airbox's crankcase vent port is well sealed up as it's on the clean side of air filter. We'll see if the K&N crankcase vent filter may get too oily or dirty. I'm sure it still runs cleaner than a godforsaken VW.

Here is real example of "gross pollution" All the Versys ever produced would not equal 1% of toxic gasses emitted by this one eruption.

So that is how you ease your conscience? By comparing your intentional polluting to a natural phenomena? Pathetic...

There is no performance benefit to removing the PCV system, same deal when people disable the PAIR valve. That film of oil will actually make the foam air filter trap more dirt, keeping it out of your engine.

Your pathetic attempt to deflect is shameful and pointless. Your ignorance regarding this topic, and your respect for this "mod" speaks volumes.

Your childish attempt to insult me was a wasted effort, and only serves to prove your ignorance on the topic. You know nothing of the car my username is derived from, nor do you understand basic engine operation theory.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, what are the legal implications of intentionally defeating a vehicle's emission control systems? How many levels of government bureaucracies would be involved if the OP's bike was inspected? Federal for certain, possibly State and County as well? And what would the repercussions be? My best guess would include vehicle impoundment, license plates confiscated, fines, repairs to return the entire bike back to original condition, etc., etc. All for what?

I don't like the thought of any of that (I DESPISE big gov't), but it is plainly apparent that ignorant people need to be taught harsh lessons. Since most people aren't speaking against this, then it falls to the government and their armed tax collecting enforcers...

Again I'll ask: All for what? Especially since there are NO actual benefits from this modification.

Why? Have you admitted your wrongdoing and reverted your bike back to original condition? I could only hope. Do you have children? Maybe even grand-children? Don't they deserve better than what you are making for them?

You do realize that your actions are why we have ever increasing government bureaucracy and regulation. How does it feel to be the cause of many problems?

You, sir, are responsible and accountable for your actions.
