Bee Sure and Check Dem Cables

Was taking an overall look at the bike during the valve adjust and found a real gotcha.

Big fray on the return throttle cable. Not sure if you could still ride it back to civilization if it broke.

Thinking it would put you in the penalty box, much like a flat tire would.

Yo Doug. Right at 19k miles.

I noticed when I installed the new cable pair that the top cable (return) did not line up properly. The chrome metal piece that fits into the holder was not pointing strait at the throttle body actuator wheel. This caused the cable to lightly contact the end of the metal housing. I put a cable wrap on both cables that pulled down the top cable housing into alignment so the cable no longer contacted the housing. I believe that this was the cause of the fray in the first place.

19K seems a little early for a cable to go bad, so that makes sense. Do you think it was an assembly issue at the factory? Poor cable routing?

I think some people run the life of their bikes and never take the throttle housing apart and lube the cables (from the top down).

I don't think that was the deal with Hawk's though, his sounded more like an alignment/path kind of thing.
