2009 Versys

Hey all,

i have a quick question. I have been thinking of upgrading from a Harley Davidson to a Versys. I need a better bike to commute, not tour.

My local dealer has a 2009 Versys with 3375 miles for $4000.

1. Is this a good price?
2. If so, what should i look for problem wise?

Thanks

Post some photos, IMHO I think it is high, many factors, including are there new tires on it, brake fluid changed, valve shim check done?

bit high for an 09, but these are really solid bikes, as long as you take care of them they will last for 100,000+ miles (my 08 is at 40k and still starts and runs like new and is for sale for $3500)

I bought a 2011 with 3200 miles last year for $4200 private sale. It came with corbin seat, kawasaki top case, gear indicator, large givi screen, ram phone mount etc.. I consider my purchase price to be good but not great. It had original tires which were totally shot by 5200 miles. I have 11,000 miles on it now and it has been a great ride. I donít like the looks of the versys but I bought it to ride not to look at.

Dealers often like to add all kinds of crazy fees, so make sure you get an out the door price up front.

In my area (Florida) KBB has a 2009 Versys listed at $2375 trade-in - $3480 SRP, just to give you an idea.

Are you getting another V or something else? If moving to a different ride, let us know why!

I picked up a nice 2015 with 11k miles for $4200 last year.

$4000 is a bit steep for an 09.

You might take a look at 2015 and up as they made several changes. Styling change was a big one. Rubber mounted pegs and handlebars made a noticeable difference in vibration thru the pegs and bars. Also the pegs were moved a bit lower and forward for a more comfortable ride.

Good luck.

2015 V-650 of course it's green...it's a Kazawalski.

Too high

I bought a used 2015 650 LT in October of '16 for either 64 or 6600, out the door from a dealer with 11k miles on it. Aside from the extra warranty, saddlebags and hard bags that came with the LT it also had a gear indicator, power outlet, Givi hugger and that uber expensive MaKaw top box(tour pack in HD talk ).

The previous owner had brought it in for new tires and left with an Africa Twin instead. The tires were done in when I bought it.

Fun bike. I was chasing down a C-14 Connie yesterday on it on some curvy roads. Awesome fun. (Hiya Steve!)

So yeah, I think 4 large is quite over priced for a nine year old Versys.

Yeah, if you want true ram air tuning, you better be willing to ram some air! (SteveinSunnyFlorida)

'99 Concours(with 234,xxx miles on it), sold

1. Nope - should be less (I bought a left-over '09 in Nov '10 for $4956 OTD).
2. Nothing....

At that mileage it doesn't need a valve-shim check! I did mine around 10K miles (but then I'm ANAL!).

Cool.

Thanks all.

I'm going to go down down tomorrow to check out the bike. Happens I have a co-worker whose brother works at the dealer. Maybe i can work a better deal.

Another question, though.

Is there an upgrade for LED headlights for this model year?

After riding my HD for the last 2 years i have come to the same conclusion. I just need something reliable to commute with, not something to "show off" when commuting.

4k is high for an 09. I would offer 3500 if the bike is pristine, 3 if it needs tires or clutch cable, less than 3 if its been dropped. Given the lack of mileage the bike probably has the original tires from 2008, they need to be replaced as they will be on the verge of dry rotting. The OEM tires will be Dunlop D221s, which are trash (I run Michelin PR4s on mine which are great).

No need - I spent a couple of hours aligning the lights on my two Gen 1s, an '08 and an '09.

Now PROPERLY set-up they give VG coverage w/ a great 'cut-off', and MUCH better than the lights on my Gen 3 '15.

Nothing much can be seen or said based on the pictures. As said 09 is a good bike if you take care if it. Mine is still as new and never fails me in any ride.

Not too sure on the price as i am on the other side on the universe, so good luck.
