OH NOES, 2011 V Buzzzzzzzzzzz

So I was hit by the BUZZ monster this week. I thought the newer V's were immune or at least mine was. Then this week I'm on my way home from work and I hear a hornet's nest in my headlight/instrument panel just out of the blue, exactly at 4900 RPM. Made me want to pull over and cry!

So I did some experimenting trying to find the cause. Rode around trying to stay at 4900 RPM while trying to get as close to the gauges as I could. It appears the buzz is coming from the top left of the cluster. Not in the instrument cluster itself but the plastic piece just to the left of it where the plastic pop rivet thingies are.

Now off to the search function to try and find a solution.

The strange thing is there is no buzz in the morning when it is colder.. it's only in the afternoon when the plastics warm up.

My 2011 doesn't buzz yet - 11,000+ miles. I do wear foam earplugs though, so maybe that's a factor for me.

So far on my 2011 the only thing that buzzes is my clutch lever.

What does "tube it" mean?

And I've never been able to figure out how to take apart those plastic rivets... any help?

Thanks.

On the recommendation of others on this site, I ordered some vacuum hose and wedged it all around the instrument cluster. it's been dead silent ever since doing that! I still get some annoying vibes on the handle bars though.

Yeah I have a vibration noise too and the vibrations in the handlebars could be annoying on long trips. Im having Oxford heated grips installed, will see if that fixes the 2nd issue. Wouldnt take much to make this bike perfect...more blacked out parts, less silver, more isolation between plastic parts, good rubber mounts on the handlebars, and maybe drop the redline to 8000RPM but squeezing more torque down low, that and of course a decent seat that was actually tested on a longer ride then going around the factory parking lot. It's already quite a bike for the price but with just these cheap upgrades they'd blow the competition out of the water.

That said, I paid 5000$ CDN for my 2011 with 4000km on it, so I'm trying to be reasonable on expectations :P

Maybe it's just that I fly airplanes that could vibrate your fillings loose all day but the buzz doesn't seem that bad to me...

You could just ignore it
