Question Unable to reinstall rear tire, I have an extra piece of metal / collar

I've swapped the rear tire on my bike 5-10 times but never ran into this problem. I have a second piece of metal that is flared in the middle, it is a rear hub sleeve. According to pics it looks like it seats into the hub and should be flush with the seal (it does and is). The collar will then sit in the seal a little before reinstalling the whole unit. My collar doesn't sit in the seal, only flush against the whole hub. This means that when I go to install it I have a half inch of extra width to try and cram into the rear arm.

This rear hub sleeve doesn't fit on the other side, all is normal over there with the other collar.

I tried inserting the rear hub sleeve and pounding it in but wasn't able to get it to go in any further. There are two bearings in there that have orange on them, there is a half inch gap or so between the two.

It looks like the sleeve that goes in the cush drive on the inside. Take the cush drive back out and you will find that one missing Im sure

Take a look at the on-line parts catalog:

(this is actually for a 2012 Versys, but you can select all the other years)

Yeah I just figured it out, I pulled off the hub and inserted that sleeve from the inside. I didn't know the hub could even be removed.

If you put the piece in from the inside then I would think that it had to come out in the reverse order. Working on autopilot?
