Versys Shopping...need advice

Ok, I am planning on getting a new motorcycle within the next month. I am pretty sure that it will be a Versys. (I thought I wanted a Wee but after sitting on one, there is just too much mass out in front. I like the clean view that the Versys provides. Plus it feels so much lighter!!)

So, I am looking for advice. Let's say I have a 6k budget.

Anybody score a new one for that? I have seen a few used 2nd Gen's for under that, but I can get a better deal on 1st gen with good Farkles for quite a bit less.

Is the 2nd gen worth the let's say 2k price difference or should I save the money and get a 1st get?

Thanks,

Chad

I looked for 6 weeks on Craigs list. Found a 2011 v with 450 miles with bags for $4250. Had to wait for the title because of loan payoff. Traveled 3 hrs for it but worth it. Deals are out there!

Do an ALL CRAIGSLIST search - http://www.searchcraigslist.org/result.php?q=versys

There's a 2011 in Annapolis with new tires and a few farkles asking $4790

EDIT: Also - I scored a new 2011 Versys for $7000 (out the door - tax, tags, everything) - but I had to wait until October - after the riding season was over last year to make the offer to a dealer who had a Versys left over. It is possible to find a good deal if you're patient...

Hager Cycle World in Rock Hill has a new 2011 asking $7,088... and Greenville Powersports has a new 2011 asking $6999. Give them a couple of months longer and offer them $6000 Out The Door and see what they say... It'll be nearing 2 model years old by then.

I was in Power Sports of Greenville Yesterday. I didn't see any new ones in there. They had a Green 09 with 4500 miles for $6499 which I told the guy was way over priced. Of course I didn't make them an offer on it either.

Chad, check this listing out: http://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2...rsys-104165518

It's a 2011 by a private seller w/3,800 miles on it(barely broken in). He's asking $5,995 and it's close to you in Lyman, SC.

Good luck!

I called about that bike a month ago, the guy said it was long gone. I don't know why it is still there?

I am about 3 weeks from having the money and being able to pounce on a deal.

Is the 2nd gen worth the price difference?

If I did not already have a pre existing committment on one, I would be all over this one that just came up.

I have always found that buying a used bike from a deal is a sure fired way to pay WAY to much. I saw a 2008 KLR for $4599 at a local dealer with NO add ons at all. Rememebr this bike sold NEW for 5 grand or so and is close to 5 years old ( I didn't check the milage), plus the 08 were known to have oil burning problem. You can buy a 2012 for $6000.00 seems like the dealer is out to get rich off the bike.

I'd look to see if you could find one someone was trying to sell. Take your time and check it over closely. I wouldn't pay much for most add ons as you'll have your own goals.

It's getting close to the new model year so you may luck out and be able to score a deal, or not.

Or was that look THEN leap?

Most would say no, but of course that depends on what the difference actually is. Personally I love my '12 just for the color, and I think the new design looks way cooler than the old. The upgrades to the motor mounts, mirrors, fairing, pegs etc. are all worth something. But I paid a helluva lot more than $6k

Indeed, a great deal!

Chris, I have a couple of questions. Did you paint the radiator shroud & the piece above the heel guard, or are they new parts? Looks good btw. I've got an Imperial red, as well, and am debating doing the same.

Also, I'm just curious why so few miles in almost a year(I put that many on mine in the 1st week) and what "larger" bike replaced your V?

Tia, and with your sale.

About a week before I was able to test drive the Versys (this July), I saw a new '11 from a dealer for sale on eBay. The bike sold for about $5,500. I wish I had test drove at that time as I would definitely have bid on that. I would suggest checking out eBay.

Man, that is nice.

720 miles from my house. What airports do you have close by?

The one is Annapolis is a smokin' deal. Even has a Givi Screen and new tires.
But what gets me is why new tires with just 3620 miles on the bike?

Not at all unusual. Almost every bike I've owned, the stock tires needed replaced between 3 and 4,000 miles. My V looks to be no exception.
