Replaced the Versys with a 29 year old

Found this 29 year old one owner KZ1100 A3 with 5900 miles. Garaged and covered since 1990. I miss the Versys but will have lots of fun on this one. I got if from my son for helping him out on his tax bill. He bought it for 700.00. I shouldn't have to spend a bunch to get it road worthy I already replaced the tires, left handle bar switch, the rusty bolts on the swing arm pivot, and installed a petcock rebuild kit. I purchased carb rebuild kits and have yet to install them. It starts right up but won't idle. I was a big Suzuki guy back in the early eighties, can't wait to get this baby on the road and do some touring.

Ran out of room

Boy was I mistaken. You meant a 29 year old MOTORCYCLE! That was not my first thought.

Nice! KZ is a nice bike. I still have my vintage(ish) bike along the similar lines, see below. I toured on it before my short venture into VFR territory last year, after which I got the Versys.

Nice! I still miss my '80 KZ 1000. Looking at that final drive, it looks like a cross between a KZ with a Concours final drive (it came just a few years later...). Enjoy!

Awesome. My buddy got a 440 LTD as his first bike....it was totaled when he was hit by drunk driver but the bike made me want the kz1100 so bad...

Is that a 14 in the back? Sweeeet collection you got there. Good luck with the kz.

hold onto those rebuild kits, and fill the float bowls with seafoam. Let that sit for a couple of hours, and try kicking it over. I bet the idle works itself out. Usually its is just a clogged idle circuit that won't let it idle. I always had good luck doing this on my KZ650 after a long winter of improper storage. KZs are pretty bullet proof. You will love it.

also, drain that old gas really well. They don't idle on crap gas. You can chase problems all day long to no avail, then feel like an idiot when you realize bad gas was the culprit. Good move on the petcock rebuild. If it gives you any more hassles, there is a direct swap petcock from a Suzuki that works very well. You can find it, and a lot of other parts at z1enterprises.com.

Dang, that is a CLEAN KZ 1000! That thing looks nearly new! Only 5,900 original miles...great find! Kinda reminds me of an old GS 750 I had about the same year. I am sure after you get the carb and other minor issues sorted out that it will turn out to be a really reliable bike--those things were anvil like reliable. Plus, it IS a liter bike after all...I'm sure it scoots down the road pretty good!
Enjoy!

I love the seats on those bikes. I don't remember them ever causing pain. Why they ever started making seats that hurt to sit on is beyond me. The best seat ever is the OEM seat on my old TR6R Triumph.
