$200 for a New Bike...

OK Fearless V Warriors,

I know that the title might be a little misleading, but it's still true. I spent the best $200 that I could for this already great bike by adding some new Shinko 009 Ravens and a Renthal 44T sprocket.

I picked up the 009s (front and rear) from Bike Bandit for about $160 shipped, and the sprocket I picked up here on the forum used for $43 shipped.

I only had about 3500 miles on the stockers, but I couldn't deal with them anymore. They slip and slide on the tar snakes when they melt in the 100 degree heat, and I didn't feel confident on them at all.

I considered shoes that cost much more than what I paid for the 009s, but given that I had a great experience with Shinkos on my 1100 Honda Sabre, I went with these again...especially since 009s have many positive reviews. They are much softer, keep good lines, and they feel great. I'm not a super biker, but I am a commuter and occasional long ride/trip taker.

And for those of you sitting on the fence about doing the 44T mod, get off the fence and just do it. The bike feels much more mellow when launching, and the vibes have gone down noticeably at highway speeds.

I know that performing these two mods have been written about elsewhere on this forum, but I'm just so ecstatic about having made this great bike that much better that I felt compelled to start another string. Keep the rubber side down!!!

A question from another San Antonio member. Who did you have mount them (and what did they charge), or did you mount them yourself?

Not very close to home now but this fall new tires are at the top of the list.
