08 vs 09

I'm in the process of buying a Versys and have been heavily shopping.

08 has 2k miles
09 has 10k miles

prices is about the same give or take 500.

any reason to stay away from an o8 vs 09 or vice versa?

Want to do this in the next day or two. Please help!!! Any info is really appreciated.

thank you! Exactly the sort of info i'm looking for.

08s and 09 are the same but often times earlier models have more hic-cups which get worked out as the years go on.

cost on both is around 5k.

The red 2008's were the fastest color but I may be slightly biased.

I'd rather buy one from someone local on the forums, not the dealer, i've been waiting for a while to pull the trigger but nothing is popping up.

the 09 has a bigger screen, lowered pegs, 16th front and approx 10k. wants 4500

08, just the luggage, and 2k miles, wants 5.

guess i'll keep holding out.

so 09 has good times warranty till May 2013

usually that's a pretty good selling point...anyone ever get any use of theirs?

No time to fly and ride. Also the shipping put it back into the money category we are currently in, give or take.

Just for the record and i do have the proof, a 08 burnt orange is the fastest bike of all the years.

Buy the 08, there is absolutely no difference in the bikes mechanically. If the bikes have some buzz from the fairing resonating with engine vibration it is no big deal and easily fixable for the cost of a roll of some some foam weather stripping tape. This is a common but easily fixable issue with 07-09 bikes. Check the serial number to verify the year of manufacture, I though burnt orange was an 07 color and red was the 08 color.

10k miles is low and all things considered, the kawasaki warranty isn't to shabby, a legit factory warranty on a well cared for used bike is a big deal, imo. anything serious that can go wrong would be covered. bmw and kawa have the best warranties from my experience. the warranty is what's swaying me on this...that and the 09 is less expensive than the 08. dudes keeping the bags...whatever.

i'd rather something ridden and main't than ridden 30 miles a mth to the local bar. Maybe i'm just strange

I'll go with the 09. a dealer popped up with an o9 as well for 5700 w/ 6k no mods or farkles of any sort. fkcn dealers.
i'll post up pics when i get it. since it's riding season all year long i figured i'd find one way before now. either there are none around or no one is getting rid of them.

This is my second Kawasaki. I would not worry too much about warranty cover age as manufacturing defects are extremely rare with any Japanese bike including this one.

true on jap bikes, agreed. however on the 800gs...thank goodness...what a piece... nevertheless. a warranty that actually works is a nice peace of mind.

I really don't think i can go wrong with any of the used V's...

i appreciate y'all chiming in on this.

A problem with the lower mileage bike is you pay extra for it, but letting a bike sit around unridden isn't always a good thing. It sounds like you're making a good choice. Enjoy your new bike!

If all I've read has been correct, there is one difference.. The shimming for the motor mounts to the frame. I know some people have complained of a gap found between the frame and the motor when loosening motor mounts on the 08, but I thought I had recalled someone stating that they checked their 09 and didn't see the issue.

Am I wrong? Just thinking out loud :-)

2008 Versys - 37k miles
Givi - V35 Monokey Saddlebags - Large windscreen - Tail rack with v46 trunk
Speedy's - 1" Handlebar risers - Footpeg Lowering blocks
Osram 65W Bright replacements
Kawasaki Handguards
... And the all important gremlin bell, courtesy of my wife.

You are wrong. I just checked mine last week and fixed the gap. There was a gap on both sides. Bought new 09 last March from a dealer. Fixed the gap with 4 SSteel washers, 2 on each side and torqued it down to 32 ft-lbs. All is well now, and I know it was done right.

Again, mine was a brand new 09, Green, and yes "we were gapping... on both sides". But no more extra stress. No fractures to the frame were seen anywhere!!
