2012 Vstrom recall for ABS problem-No sales

I was in Plano Kawasaki/Suzuki today to see if they had the 2012 Vstrom 650 yet and they quickly informed me "no", and besides they couldn't sell them if they had them because of a recall on the ABS system.

On top of that, the part needed to replace whatever is wrong has not been made yet so there is no time frame for sales.

They also said that the 2011 ABS models couldn't be sold because of the same thing.

And on it goes................

I was told it had something to do with the brake light rather than the brake system.

Well that's what I was told but it's a moot point as they can't sell them. I was seriously considering one as a stable mate for the Versys.

They only release recalls after they find a fix and have the parts to fix it. If they do not have the parts there is no reason to recall the bikes as that would piss off anyone who bought one. This is a normal practice in the auto industry and probably motorcycle industry to

Yeah, either way there's a no-sale hold on them. The dealer told me that they'll continue to ship but they aren't to be on the floor until the problem is fixed.

Just got off the phone and according to the dealer that I use.
The hold on sales is due to a "brake light switch and will only last a few days"

From Stromtrooper

"I just had a call from my dealer, informing me of a recall on the 2012 650, and that I can expect a letter from the factory advising me not to ride the bike until the repair is done. The recall involves the front brake switch, and the possibility of it not activating the brake light on the rear of the bike. He advised me to use both brakes, so if the front switch on the hand lever doesn't work, the switch on the rear brake pedal will activate the brake light. If he has parts in stock at the 1000 mile service, he will replace or repair it then. Just a heads up to the owners and riders of the new model.. check your switches/lights."

That dealer is unique as all the others I have talked with had no idea when the problem would be fixed.

Don,
Kawasaki of Carrollton on Beltline has a black 2012 V. I was in there inquiring about a part so we didn't discuss whether or not they could or would sell the bike. Nice looking ride for sure.

thanks for that update. I'd like to see one in person even if they can't sell it to me!
