Info needed for MD resident buying from PA seller

Shortly after my 1000 mile round trip from MD to TN, I sold my Versys and switched to a HOG with sidecar for ice cream runs with the toddler. I'm coming back. On Craigslist, I found a Versys which has a lien on the PA title.

For a MD lien, Mr Seller signs the title with a lien on it and you go to his bank where you pay him and he pays the bank. The bank gives you a lien release letter and you can go to Motor Vehicles and get a title.

I understand in PA, there may be an electronic title somewhere which takes days to get. I also read somewhere there a Notary has to be present. Anyone know the whole process?

Update. I called PenDot. They said if there is an electronic lien title, the physical title will be sent to Mr Seller some days after the bank clears the lien. So, I guess you pay, get a bill of sale, and take the bike, then hope Mr Seller gets the title, has his signature notarized, and mails it.

Thanks.

I used to live in PA, but it's been a while. I also recently sold my father's car at auction there last month. You need to present both yourself and the seller at a "tag & title" shop, where they will process all the paperwork for a nominal fee. That fee is something you'll have to work out with the seller. The title will likely be forwarded to you in Maryland, since his bank is holding it, and then you can complete your Maryland registration. Not sure how it works back there, but I used to buy trucks in Texas and resell them in New Mexico, and I was able to drive them for up to 30 days with just the bill of sale.

Thanks. So it sounds like we need a trip to his bank and a trip to a tag/title place.

MD wants vehicles brought into the state to be inspected. They have a 7-day temp tag, so I think they don't want me riding with no tag. Since I won't have a title for some days, I'll just have to trailer it around to get the inspection.

Best,
Tony

I talked to a PA Tag / Title Place. The options are:

1> He pays off the loan with his savings, gets a clear title in a few days, then meets with me at a title place

2> I get the bike from him with a notarized bill of sale, we go pay off his loan, the bank tells pendot the electronic lien title is clear, they send it to him, and he gets a notarized signature and sends me the title.

3> I just found about the bank can request a paper title w/lien...
