Motorcyclist Smart Money: Thumbs Up on V

See page 80 of your March 2012 issue of Motorcyclist for a Smart Money review of the 08-10 V as a used bike.

"There are better choices for track days and off-roading, but the Versys is a capable tool for just about any other adventure you can dream up."

Saw it!! Sometimes it's nice to get validation on the decisions we have made in life. For me it was love at first sight for the '08 Versys. Nice to know many others feel the same.

Look at the Feb issue of Bike magazine. They have a review of the Versys 1000 and the Honda NC700X, nice to see Honda build something that I would want to ride. Something that I'm puzzled by is that none of the mags have done a joint review of the Versys and the VStrom. Yes they're about the same but it would give an opportunity for someone looking at one model to perhaps discover another. I know people who are brand loyal and never look around.

INDEED!
Last night...no new March issue on my 'Nook tablet'.
This morning (after reading this post seconds ago...) I turned on my 'Nook' and there it is....The March issue......LOLOLOL

Gotta say...It's been a blast reading 'Motorcyclist' as they celebrate their 100 year anniversary with all the Looking-back features. For a guy that's been riding for only a few years...I'm really enjoying the history lesson.
Thanks for the 'heads-up' guys.

The January 2012 issue of my fav..."Bike",uk; Just published a story...
"The 25 Smartest bikes you can buy". (all-rounders).
The lower 15 choices included the 'wee-strom', Tiger 1050, Aprilia Shiver-GT, et-all.
Just a few lines of text and no photos. But for the top ten choices....starting in the tenth spot...Our Versys!
Nice write-up indeed.
Kawasaki really nailed.

Yep, we all know she's a GREAT bike! My affirmation came when I could hang with liter bikes in the twisties on roads I'd never even ridden and, of course, these legendary vids:

Has anyone heard of the Versys stator frying in overheated engine oil?

How hot does the V's oil get in normal summer use?

I've read that when Kawasaki went from the 650 Ninja to the V's engine, they increased the radiator size by 20%, and lowered the engine compression ratio to reduce engine temps.

Didn't Gary blow a stator a couple years ago in Peru or Argentina or one of the large and increasing number of countries he's been to? Don't know if it was engine oil related, I seem to remember it had something to do with going too deep into a river (!!). As I recall he was out of commission for a while awaiting a parts shipment and dealing with customs on imports.

There's been a thread or three about burnt-up stators. I don't think it's accurate to call it common, but it's not unheard-of.
