Aftermarket exhausts

I recently helped my brother in law install his close to $800 aftermarket exhaust. A close examination of the manufacturer's product info and included dyno chart shows a fairly insignificant boost in peak HP at max RPM and a few pounds of weight reduction. Fine print also mentions a corresponding change to the fuel mapping. I'm not sure this is even a detectable power increase but it sure is loud. Now he wants to buy a power commander to do the fuel mapping. I'm happy he's happy and I did not want to rain on his parade but am I missing something? Why do so many bike owners want to spend this kind of money on a modification that might subtract ~0.1-0.2 seconds from the 1/4 mile time? Maybe it's just me but there are a lot of motorcycle related things I would spend $800 dollars on before a muffler. End of rant.
