2012 Versys differences

Hi all,

I'm looking at getting a new black/black 2012 V in the next week or so (also my first bike!). I just wanted to know if anyone has any experience with the 2012 model, and if so, what are the differences/improvements on the 2011 and older models. So far the only thing I can tell is the color options!

One other little technical question, but does anyone know what aftermarket oil filters would fit the V (2012 model?). I prefer Bosch, Mobil 1, Wix, or Pure One filters.

Thanks!

Oh, and Merry Xmas everyone! I hope you all have a great New Year as well! I wish I had my bike today though, the roads have been absolutely empty!

Ed

There is no differance so far as I know from 2011 other than the black heel plates.... I have a 2011 v and I love it, it makes a great bike.

I think 2010 and up are basically the same bikes. I am using K&N on my bike many because it has the nut in the end and it sure makes changing filters a lot easier.

Awesome, thanks for the input! I'm getting super excited about this. Putting money down on the 31st, then they order it, and I'll hopefully receive around the 13th!

You can get WalMart ST7317 filters for around $3 apiece. A LOT of us use them!

filters

Use the Pure One PL14610. I tend to stay
away from the cheap W-M filters as they
are made by Fram and are totally ineffective
at removing grit and other wear-causing
debris in the oil. All the ones you mention
would be better. Can't believe it's been
two years since I posted here...

I have a 2012 and it is also my first bike. I haven't found any differences from a 2011 other than the extra black.

As a first bike I am very happy. I don't think you would want to be less than 5'10" though as the height and high centre of gravity makes slow speed manoeuvring much more difficult than on a lower bike. Also if you are on your toes when stopped it is hard to push back when you want to park. Go for an ABS model if available as it is a big help to a novice in an emergency stop.

Awesome, thanks! Nothing against those who use them, but I'd rather not use the cheap Wally Mart brand. The PureOne filters have great reviews on motor oil forums. They're only $6 on Amazon, so not really a big deal.

Good thing I'm 6'3"! If I was shorter I'd probably go for the new Ninja 650. But for my body and what I want to do with the bike, the Versys just seems to make the most sense.

I've been using the Wal-Mart ST7317 oil filter for years on my '01 Yamaha FZ1 with no problems. Sweet that it works on the Versys also. And best of all it's Made In America.

Put money down on the 2012 V Black on Black! Got it for $8600 after everything. They knocked off about $400 of the MSRP which I sort of expected. But I did talk them out of charging me another $300 for shipping! Even though they didn't have the bike in stock, they were definitely were interested in selling to me before the new year (I bought it yesterday). It also helped that I had my financing all in line and didn't need them at all for that.

They said they're going to start searching for one... hopefully I'll get it in a couple weeks!
