2012 Versys 1000 (Not Again!)

It may be a hoax but, if so, it's a pretty convincing one. Motorcycle USA has posted it's "first look" at the 2012 Versys 1000.

They say it's powered by a 1043cc inline 4 (from the Z1000), and has three mode traction control, ABS, two mode power setting, and some other interesting things including over 116 horsepower and over 75 lb-ft of torque with a weight of just over 525 lb (that's about 38 kilograms, I think)

Just a bit curious? Take a look: http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/629/11...rst-Look-.aspx

Akropovic exhaust is even listed as a Kawasake accessory.

Didn't see a price listed but I would hope it to be competitive with Yamaha's Super Tenere and a good deal less than BMW's GS models. Who knows, huh?

Then again, maybe it's a (Japanese) government conspiracy.

That's a fairly convincing hoax. I think I know what I'm riding next Kawasaki demo day.

Someone must not be visiting this forum lately.
The speculating is over.

Come to think of it, I probably was joking. However, the old thread concerning the "mythical" Versys 100 was rife with accusations of it being a hoax. Seems rather real now and with an MSRP (from your link) of $13,999 not too expensive a reality at that.

Just having a bit of fun, I suppose. That's still permissable I trust.

525 pounds is approximately 238.636 kilograms.
38 Kg would be extremely light!

Approximately, huh??

I couldn't help myself - it's a bit of "Top Gear" humor. Call it metric dyslexia.

Sort of like Dave Barry who said, "'The French drive around in cars the size of Altoid boxes at 200 kilograms per hour." Incorrect but funny none the less.

Still, I suppose we could always wish the Versys 1000 would be lighter than it is.

Except it's not in Kawasaki USA's lineup for 2012.....which you'd have known if you and the OP had read one of the countless other threads about this bike and it's availability.

It's listed on the Kawasaki Canadian and UK websites as a 2012 model. They introduced the Versys 650 in Europe and Canada in 2007, but did not bring it to the US until a year latter in 2008. I think they may be doing a similar thing with the Versys 1000.

It's 60% more money than the Versys 650, weighs 73lbs more with fluids, has ~40% more power and the exact same seat height.

Oh yeah. I meant 2013 demo day, unless I'm in Europe on vacation.

I knew I've been away from the forum too long!
