Regret Selling my V

Well, it's time to publicly admit that I made a mistake selling my Versys. I was in such a hurry for something "better" that I didn't realize it wasn't the bike- it was the rider. 5 bikes later, and I'm back to looking for a good 2nd gen to pick up next month or in January.

What have folks on here paid for their '10 and '11 Versys? (Versyses? Versysi?) Most of the dealers around here are looking for near sticker on the '11 bikes. Hell, they only took $400 off sticker for the demo bike. Is that what everyone else is seeing?

Thanks, all. Hopefully soon to be back in the fold.

Just curious as to what you thought would be better? Brakes, power, etc...?

Ride To Live, Live To Ride....no, really!

What did I want to change?

Specifically, the buzzy nature of the Versys really killed me. I couldn't do more than about 45 minutes of highway speed without my feet going numb, and the noise from the cowling drove me nuts.

Also, I wasn't really a huge fan of the brakes.

In retrospect, both of those could have been fixed relatively quickly, cheaply and easily.

The more honest answer is that I'd bought the idea that a bigger, more powerful, more expensive, larger displacement machine is a better machine. I've found, as many of you have, that is not even close to true. Right now I'm riding a KLR650 and having more fun than I've had in a year on a motorcycle. I think the Versys was the perfect bike for me, I just wasn't bright enough to see it.

New out the door 2011 for 5900.00 is what a bud just paid. Well he lives in VA and got it in NJ and had them ship it for $285 but still a good deal.

O and by the way live and learn. I thought I could do everything I needed to do on a DRZ 400......that lasted less then a year!

I like your thoughts. i have owned small dirt bikes, custom low riders and the pocket rockets with tuned engines. all fun in their own way.

however i got my versy in may 2011 from a work colleague. 2500 miles on the clock for £2500 (GBP). a bargin as the same bike with twice the mileage was close to £4K in the shop.

i am a convert to the V. ride it every day to work and back - 42 miles a day rain or shine and i smile all the way. a new set of PR2's a few miles back and now theres a grin.

what a bike. life will be perfect if only i could kill the little chirpie bird thats got in the cat. perhaps next year for an after market.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Like I said- definitely realize it was a mistake, but I'm new to all this and trying to learn as I go.

$5900 OTD is a lot less than what I'm seeing in NC. Local dealer wants $6500 before title, tax, tag and fees for his '11 demo bike. Guess I have some negotiating to do.

Since the buyer lives in Virginia and purchased in New Jersey, he probably didn't pay any sales tax or vehicle registration fees in New Jersey, and then he paid $285 for shipping, so the prices you have found are only $315 higher than his "bargain" price in New Jersey!

Yep, I know the feeling. I sold my '08 and bought a '09 Goldwing. Had the Goldwing for about 6 months and realized it wasn't for me. Sold it and Bought an 09 Versys and this is here to stay.

Here in Kansas City on Craigslist is a 2010 w/ low miles asking $5500.00.

I bought my 2011 in July for $6200.00 but I had a $500.00 incentive voucher from Kawasaki (so the dealer actually sold it for $6700.00). Tags, Taxes & Title Registration was extra (about $360) at the DMV office. If your dealer is not including the taxes, tags, title, etc, in the $6500.00, you should have a little bit more to negociate. Especially since the 2012s are starting to be delivered.

Hi Knotty - Us Brits are in the minority on here - doesn't matter tho' - a V is pretty much a V, wherever it may live. I'm in Surrey, near Gatwick. My 2011 V is modded for that 'motard' look

I would venture that if he paid $5900 in New Jersey, he still shipped it for $285, then paid VA sales tax, Tags, Registration Fee. No way around VA taxes. VA tax rate is ~3% (~$177). Tags are ~$35, Title is ~$10-$25. Probably closer to $6400 out the door. Which is more realistic.

I've bought and sold the Versys multiple times. Finally decided it's ok to have 2 bikes so I picked up another '08 today.

Don't feel like youre alone DJ. I sold my first true love, a 1999 ZRX 1100 that I had totally modded out and paid off. I learned my lesson and tried to find that love again...3 bikes later I found the Versys. Now my Versys is totally modded out and almost paid off and she aint goin anywhere! May add a bike down the line but no selling the V.

I bought my '11 the last day of April '11. Negotiated the dealer down to around $6600 and then used my Kawasaki Ticket to Ride coupon and my game piece to knock another $750 off the price. At the time I could have bought a 3 month registered '09 blue one for $4000, but just thought the '11 was worth the extra $. Had the '09 been green I'd be riding it right now. Not that I don't like the blue, I was already riding an '07 Ninja 650R in blue.

I heard Kawasaki is doing the Ticket to Ride events this next year as well. If you live close enough to one of the venues you might want to wait until then.
