Cheese Country Trail

Some of you may remember that earlier this year I started down the Cheese Country Trail and turned around right away because it was large, loose gravel. Since I've road miles of gravel in construction zones with no worries, that kind of ate away at me saying "Woose!", so the other day I headed back and gave it another shot. I dropped the front tired down to 22 psi and hit the trail. Ya, the big 2" gravel was still there, but it wasn't near as much of a problem. And just around the corner from where I turned around the composition of the trail changed to a much smaller gravel. Needless to say the riding was easy. No problem at all and I enjoyed riding 38 miles of the stuff before I had to head home. Please give the pics a little slack. They were taken with my camera phone.

Very nice. I may give that trail a try. Do I need to buy a "trail sticker" in order to ride the trail?

It appears that street legal motorcycle are allowed on this trail, correct?

Thanks!

Me too.

Trialsguy, Street legal motorcycles are allowed on the trail. Street legal or not, you need a $15 annual sticker to ride a motorcycle on the trail. ATV's are free, I assume because the trail is maintained by the local ATV club. I bought my sticker at the Lucky 7 gas station about a mile from the trail head in Monroe.

Sections follow the Petonica River like in the photo below. It's a nice ride and should be even better once the fall foliage breaks out.

That's south of Madison somewhere, isn't it? I'm an hour north of Madison. Maybe I should take that in before winter comes. Might be a fun day trip.

Depending on where you are north of Madison catching the trail at Mineral Point may be closer. But, ya. Monroe is about an hour south of Madison.

Here's a quick map:

Just how many cheeseheads we got on here, anyway? I'm in Oxford. We should have our own cheesehead rally V gathering thingy.
