The relief of an idiot

I finally had time again so after adjusting the valve clearance I put my bike back together enough to try and start it.
...Lots of chugging, sounded OK but it clearly did not start. What the... and I double-checked everything!

Try it again: Chuggachuggachuggachugga.
DANG it. Time to do it all over again.

So I rotate the tank away, pull the top of the airbus off, and ...yeah, exactly, found the rags still stuffed in the air intake.
I pulled the rags out and successfully started the engine. You can imagine the relief of this "Code ID10T".

Garage
Was there one rag stuffed into each throttle body? If so, did they get sucked any deeper into the throttle body?

I ask this since I assume that some day I will make the same mistake. I imagined having to dissect the whole machine to extract the rags, and hoped that I will never get to find out.

Did the same thing on a cr500 like 20 years ago. I kicked that thing for hours strait and never knew I left the rag in there. My right leg hurts just thinking about it!

Yeah, separate rags, but it is very unlikely that they get sucked in. They are too tight in there, and the sub throttle plates will hold them too from slipping down further.

I did the same exact thing a few years back--on a CR 500 too!!!

Stuck the rag in there when I was cleaning the air filter, then when the filter was clean and dry, I installed it without even thinking about the rag.

Took me about 3 hours to figure out what was "wrong with my bike."

Dennis, you know the penalty for leaving rags in the air intakes, don't you? That's right, a trip to your daughter's hair salon.
