Extended manufacturer warranty

Hi all: just bought a new 2011 Versys. Was wondering about getting an extended manufacturer's warranty (additional 4 years for $895). Any thoughts and suggestions?

First of all, to the Forum!
There have been a few threads on this. Here's the most recent:

Basically, if you plan on keeping your wonderful V for a while, it can be a good deal - and there are dealers from whom you can get the same coverage for a LOT less; the savings will give you a head start on outfitting your bike.
Enjoy!

dont bother.
if its like here in the uk the dealers will gain by all those expensive sevices they will have to carry out to stay within the warrenty.

Mines 2 nearly three services a year at £300 smackers ouch.
I will do my own out of warrenty and save the bucks.

Call http://fremontmotorsports.com/ and speak with Ryan. They sell the Kawasaki Good Times Protection Plan at or near cost to get the exposure on motorcycle forums.

$349 total for 4 years of warranty.

I have since received a certificate from them and Kawasaki. My warranty also shows on the Kawasaki website. Good deal!

You probably don't need it for this bike but if it's worth it to you for peace of mind you could get it.
Not worth it to me; I'll never take my bike to the dealer for service, maintenance or repair. More a testament to the excellence of my local shop (Cycle Tune) than a condemnation of the dealers, though there is some of that in there too.

They are betting most riders won't (and don't) put that many miles on their bikes and will never use it.

Now, if you ride 15-20K miles a year and plan on keeping the bike for a while, I can't see how you won't come out on the plus side of a $350 4yr. extended warranty. One moderate/major repair and you are way ahead.

: This here is the absolute truth!! Just like people who, after making a New Year's resolution, buy a 2 year membership to a gym and use it for 2 months. That's where the money is made.

Let it ride

I wouldn't.

If something is going to break it will do it in the first year. I bought an 09 ZX-6R broke it in by the book, no wheelies, not racing, no burn outs, kept it stock, ran the good Motul 7100 4T oil, at 8030miles #4 con rod broke and fell in the clutch, grenaded the motor.

It was a leftover 09 i bought in 2010 so it was under the manufacturer's warranty still. Motor and tranny replaced no questions asked [I know they dumped that computer and found nothing because i had done nothing just caught a rod out of a bad batch i think]

After that I then bought an additional year on the warranty. I say if you don't have any problems the first year don't bother. They will send you a letter at the end of the manufacturer's warranty offering the extended. I have about 17K and some change on the bike in a year and 3 months.

Complete waste of money. IMHO.

I don't buy warranties for anything. If it breaks I fix it.

Saying that `if something is going to break it will do it in the first year’ may be true when speaking of solid state electronics — but it is not true when speaking of vehicles & engines, etc., which have scores of moving parts, all subject to fatigue & wear...

5 Years @ 3,000 miles per year = 15,000 miles

5 Years @ 20,000 miles per year = 100,000 miles

4 Year Unlimited Mileage Extended Warrantee = $349.00

Radiator Fan = $310.00 + S&H (not MSRP - Actual Cost at www.kawasakipartsnation.com)

Substitute your own anticipated yearly mileage – Do the math – Play the odds
.

^ Excellent post Element.

a) If you're a motorcycle mechanic and can get parts cheap-don't get it
b) If you're comfortable with playing the odds-don't get it
c) If you don't have confidence in your dealership-don't get it

d) If none of the above apply, get it for $349

As Americans, we are lucky enough to be able to change our own oil and still be covered by warranty!

When I purchased my 09 in March of this year the warranty issue never came up. Never even considered an extended warranty as it never crossed my mind. Now I wonder why the dealer never brought it up. But he did show me all the nice luggage system and offered me a 10% discount on the whole package if I bought it that day.

I may consider an extended warranty if I get promo mail about the time my 1 year warranty expires next year.

Was the 09 new from a dealer? When you get your letter from Kawi offering an extended warranty check the price aqainst Fremont Motor Sports in Florence Colorado. I bought a 4yr extended for my 09 for $349.00 back in 09. I believe they still offer the same deal now.

Yes, new 09 from dealer. I'll check out Fremont's price next February when my year is about up.

Thanks
