Frame Wear Under Seat

Has any one else noticed some frame wear caused by the seat? I can post a few pictures in the next couple days.

Probably happens when your store a pistol under your seat, just kidding. Have not noticed any on my bike.

I suspect you are seeing some of the paint on the frame being worn off.

Look on the bottom of the seat and see where its rubbing the frame. probably can glue some thin rubber on it to help protect the frame if your concerned about it.

i recently installed my soft saddle bags under the seat instead of over and it makes the seat fit a little tighter, i wonder if this is the cause because i didnt notice it before. I weigh 230. I will try to get pictures up tonight if it is not raining when i get home from work.

Here are images of my frame wearing due to the seat. I cleaned and covered the spots with silicone spray. I think i might install some insulators next time i get a chance just to keep separation and avoid more wear.

I have a little wear also. Put some tape over it to protect the paint work.

Probably falls into the 'They all do that' category.

I just placed insulation tape on the usual wear points, works a treat.

Good luck exploring the infinite abyss

I have the same wear marks on the cross bar on mine. I am going to cover it with some rubber or something. I do not have any saddle bags on mine. I weight about 190 lbs.

Had the same wear mark under mine. Previous owner didnt bother. I couldnt. So today i cut up some rubber pieces from a disused moped tyre tube, clean it up and stick it on the wear area with some 3m double sided tape. Seat is harder to close, but at least i know that the seat is no longer grinding the frame directly.

Humm plastic vs metal. I somehow doubt that the plastic seat is actually wearing the metal down. More likely its just the paint that's being worn off.

yup, the paint is being worn off and it just unsightly whenever i opened up my seat. lol.

anyway, i dont know if it's just placebo effect, but i find that the seat vibes has been "slightly" dampened. the vibe is not eliminated completely but i do felt less rumble on my butt compared to my usual commute to work.

note the depressed part in the middle.

this is just for starters. noticed that the small pieces gets moved/edged away. in due time i'll slap on larger pieces to make sure it stays.

...JEEZ !...if you sit on the seat...and, the seat sits on the frame

.....the paint just has to wear...not an issue

I noticed this on my bike. It's just paint wearing away - but!

I cut up some bike inner tube & glued / zip-tied these to the affected areas. When I went for a ride round the block I convinced myself the seat vibes had reduced! I will check on my next ride on Thursday. Can't wait.

My bike does the same thing, its just the paint. With the other ~10 miles of off road riding I have done so far... I am going to worry more on other parts on the bike at this point.
