Driveway drop, can't shift past 2nd.

Well, sometimes things happen sooner than later. I dropped the bike in the driveway in, perhaps, the gentlest way possible. While the shifter doesn't clearly appear bent, something has gone wrong because I can't shift past second gear now. Any ideas on what I can do other than take her to the shop?

Is the engine when you try to shift or off?

Cheers!

I had a similar experience with a Yamaha FZ1. It turned out to be that the mount holding the shifter had been tweaked just enough to cause the shift rod to bind. Look at that.

Possible reasons:

Shift fork bent or seized
Gear stuck on the shaft
Gear positioning lever binding
Shift return spring weak or broken
Shift return spring pin loose
Shift mechanism arm spring broken
Shift mechanism arm broken
Shift pawl broken

Does the gear level return after stepping on it or is it jammed in position?

What year and how many miles on bike? My guess, '09 & not many.
Others have had similar issues, most resolved themselves, a few required service.
