2015/2016 Versys Question

I currently have a 2009 Versys and am considering picking up a new Versys 650 LT.

One of the things I don't like about my '09 is the abrupt throttle. Has Kawasaki remedied this situation on the 2015+ models?

Not sure what you mean by abrupt throttle, but my 2016 throttle is very smooth.

Check your free Play

I am guessing at this, as I was told a similar thing by another 2015 owner that said he was having a hard time and was pulling wheelies unintentionally. What I found was the throttle cables weren't adjusted properly, he had about 0.125 or a 1/4 inch of free play, between the push and pull cables. I have absolutely no idea how he ever rode that bike without getting into a accident. I very much doubt that is your problem, but I thought I would post this anyway.

There are several threads on the forum about the abrupt throttle problem. Here is just one:

So far I've only been able to find threads concerning this throttle quirk on the 1st and 2nd generation Versys. Since I'm looking to buy a new 3rd generation, I'm hoping that this problem was resolved at the factory before release of the 3rd gen.

This is not the first time I've encountered this problem on FI bikes. I had a 1998 & 2000 Honda VFR that had a slightly abrupt throttle from full off but it was much less noticeable than that on the Versys.

FWIW - I haven't had THAT problem on either of my Gen 1s ('08 and '09), OR on my Gen 3 ('15).

I have noticed that my 2015 650 has a "touchy" throttle compared to the Vulcan that I had previously. I found it a bit more tolerable if the throttle cable was adjusted to the very minimum of slack.

The throttle reminds me of a sprint car throttle, 1/4" of movement from idle to full. Takes a bit of getting used to.
