Exclamation Grand Experiment: Your assistance requested.

So I got a wild bug up my tailpipe today, and decided I should at least try. I could use the help of members here, as you'll all be pretty much the best sources for info.

Goal: To create a page with relevant information for modifying your Versys.

Goal: To provide a reference and source to various modification options available for the Versys.

Goal: To provide family/friends an easy to understand source for gift ideas.

Concept: My thought is to create a 2-part web page/sticky containing topics including "Farkle FAQ" and "Gift Guide".

Concept: "Farkle FAQ" - This section would hold basic information relevant to matching farkles to your bike and what sizes/shapes/compatibilities are required.

Example: "Farkle FAQ" How much power do I have available to add in lights/effects/etc.? A: (Need to find out.)

Example: "Farkle FAQ" What is the diamater of the exaust pipes? A: (Need to find out.)

Example: "Farkle FAQ" What size tires do I need to use the stock rims? A: (Need to find out.

Concept: "Gift Guide" - This section would provide different modification options in different price points, a brief description, and a link to a US seller that actually stocks it (hence no eBay or Craigslist ads). International options to follow (hopefully) later. Lets face it, how many of our S/O's, family, and friends have asked what to get you for the holidays just to give you a funny look when you said "Hugger" or "Slip-On"?

Example: "Gift Guide" $25-$50 - Mirror Vibration Dampener - These keep the mirrors from shaking so much so you can see what's behind you - Found Here (URL)

Example: "Gift Guide" $100-$200 - Hugger - These keep water from flinging up my back and into the engine compartment, also help protect the chain. - Found Here(URL), Here(URL), Here(URL), or Here(URL).

Example: "Gift Guide" $$200-$500 - Slip-On Exaust - An aftermarket exaust system increases performance and sound as well as adds a nice visual and audible touch - Found Here(URL), Here(URL), Here(URL), or Here(URL).

What I have: I have more web space than I know what to do with, and a desire to provide a simple place for so much of the information that is buried throughout the forums.

What I need: I need Questions and Answers that commonly come up here that aren't brand/model specific, like mirror thread size, power output, dimentions, etc.
I also need submissions to create the gift guide. A basic description, a price range rounded to $25 (If it's $183.46, round it up to $200), and product links to vendors or manufacturers (vendors preferred). Please nothing from eBay or Craigslist. The idea is you can send people to this page/link and they can find something for you from either the list or at least point them in the right direction with minimal effort. If you want to do a Google shopping search as the link, that works fine too.

I'll be asking for input on different categories in other threads so I can start compiling (tires vs. environment as an example) so don't be shy popping into those.

So, that's my plan, I could use some help. I figure if we have 100 people doing a little bit on their free time, we can come up with a helluva guide.

Thanks all!

Sounds like a lot of work but all the best, like the bit about a section gift guide, better than getting socks on fathers day

Sounds like something useful for those of us still learning bikes in general, let alone the V, but Kiwi is right, a helluva lot of work...

Well, itís certainly going to be big project but it sounds like a good idea to me.

Much (if not most) of the info you want has probably already been posted in here but this forumís search function is pretty weak, however, if you use Googleís advanced search mode and limit it to this domain (kawasakiversys.com) you should be able to harvest a wealth of data.

Good Luck

I like it! And we need a huge sticky up top to direct folks there for the more commonly asked questions.

Well, I'm making pretty good headway on the FAQ, but I have yet to get any posts or PMs for the gift guide. C'mon guys, there are other places to shop than TT, right?

Hoping to have the FAQ up by Friday if all goes well. I'll expect people to pop in with questions that I didn't think of (and preferably answers too. )

None whatsoever. I'm hoping to get it made into a sticky, but I have the ability to host it elsewhere if needed.

Ouch... after many, many, MANY hours of digging through the site, google, kawasaki .PDFs, and quite a few other forums, the beta is up.

Check out the post and let me know what needs to be changed/added/etc.

Ow.. my eyeballs hurt...

just curious - but is this a for profit endeavor your asking for help with ?

having content that attracts an audience; seems like youd log the traffic as proof of interest, then sell ad space, click throughs, etc. right ?

seems like 99.8% of what you need is already sitting there/here. not poopin on the whole thing, its just . . . . well, ya might owe a few people some beers depending on your motives

Nope, this is a labor of love because while I found about 70% of the info having Google dig through the domain, there was still a LOT of info that either wasn't in the forums, or was the 4th line in the 3rd paragraph 3/4 page down on another topic entirely.

Doing this was just to make it easier to find the basic "Versys Mods for Dummies" part of being a new owner easier to work with.

gottcha -

by way of example, this is what came to mind when i first saw your post. > http://linerwiki.com/index.php?title=Main_Page its pretty straight forward, kind of a "wiki" format but not exactly. to your point about new owners, its all boiled down and accounted for in one place.

this one > http://www.acksfaq.com/sitemap.htm is along the same lines. he ask for donations outright (and i think that's fair) plus theres a little banner ad space / click through at the top. if you go to "site map" youll get an idea of the depth of the thing. similar to you, he just went and did it which i think is great.

best of luck

Dave, if you check the Cosmedic Mods section, it's right up top there. I'm hoping I can get a Mod to make it a sticky so it doesn't get buried in the future.

If anyone knows the code for putting in a thumbnail that links off to a larger picture, please let me know. I'd like to put pics of some of the options in each sections, but my HTML coding sucks, and I don't think it'll work in a BB forum. I think it would go something like this:

<img src="thumbnail.jpg"><a href="http://www.link-to-pic.com/big-pic.jpg"></a></img>

I'm not too sure though, and I know that HTML doesn't quite work in these forums. If anyone knows the proper code formatting, please let me know so I can add pics to the FAQ.

A section on good site to purchase from narrowed to country would be awesome. Finding a Canadian site with an actual stock to pick from is like shooting myself in the foot with a staple gun over and over again.

Hopefully I will have a website for the Versys Center Stand up in the next couple of days. I'll send you the link as soon as it's up.
