Squidventure Labrador

Well it's finally here. I will be leaving Halifax within the hour to go on a much anticipated Trans Labrador trip on the Versys. The total run is approx 4500 kms with approx 1000-1200 kms dirt roads.

There are 5 bikes in our group in total. A BMW 650GS, a KTM 990 Adventure, a KLR 650, a Honda Veradero, and me on me Versys.

First of all the name- Squidventure. We thought that would be kind of comical as we are all fairly experienced riders but are green as hell when it comes to this kind of adventure- Camping etc. We even have our own decals and shirts made up for the event. Sample Attached

In the pic, my bike looks super loaded, and it is, but total luggage weight including pannier weight is a bulky 90lbs. Too bad for the Versys I'm such a fat bastard too.

I will likely not be posting too many updates until we return but I will try. I know we plan on doing a Ride Report on ADVRIDER too. It will be good to see how the old Versys fares in comparisonm to the other bikes. Also, we will have many pics and some videos to share. Luckily 2 of the guys coming along have decent cameras and as you can see below, I have never been confused with a photographer.

I am running Givi racks, Kappa Panniers, a fabricated aluminum plate on the rear, Algard rock guard, and Tourance tires.

Cheers
Greg

That looks and sounds really cool! Though it also sounds like a motorcycle magazine comparison with the various lineup of bikes going on the trip. Have fun and be safe.

Well we made it all back and are alive.

Due to the fact that these ride reports are a huge amount of work, especially for 5 computer squids., we have all agreed to post one ride report in ADV rider instead of in 5 or 6 different sites.

The thread has now begun and is a work in progress, and likely the 5 of us will be chiming in as time goes on.

As for the trip, pics, and mishaps, I won't spill the beans, go to the link, stay tuned, and see how our beloved Versys makes out!!

Looks like it was a fun trip! At least what you guys have posted so far. Great deal on the house! WAY better than camping or a motel!

Hey Trailslapper, just checked the ride report in progress. very cool ride. i am planning a trip next june from seattle, down and thru Oregon, into Southern Idaho and heading up to glacier national, then returning to seattle.. its about 2400 miles and about 1/3 ( i think) is on gravel / fire roads, maybe more. so.. i am really interested in how the bike handled it the gravel.. of which it looks like you hit a lot. what mods you did you do to the bike. what tires were you running. i am thinking of MT60's.

thx.

Wow looks like a wonderful trip.

I especially enjoyed the picture of the Manic5 dam

I rode the Gaspesie and the Cote Nord but never got around to go to Manic5 I am very jalous of your trip.

I am a little disappointed that you ran out of gas because google maps gives me a 215km distance between Baie-Comeau and Manic 5

I am looking forward to read the rest of the story
