Your Dream Ride

If you could go for a ride to anywhere were would it be?

For me, it would be leaving my house in NY, and ending up in Prudhoe Bay Alaska.

There are plenty we have planned, but the one we'd most like... if and when my sabbatical comes - is to fly to Europe, rent motos, and tour as much of Europe as time will allow. The bikes we'd rent would have to be able to hit the track, as there are a few crazy British tracks we feel we have to ride at some point in our lives.

For here - we're planning Baja and Utah, and we have Alaska on the plan at some point.

Route 66, Chicago to the end in California & then do a return trip to Florida, by way of the U.S. Four Corners.

The Bering Strait, from Russia to Alaska.

Unfortunately I'll just have to settle for other land mass areas.

When's that sabbatical due? You coming next year? Shall we hold a spot for you two?

Have you seen that vid of the Versys at Cadwell?

Now that I would like to do, would be a interesting excise if it would be cheaper for me to buy a bike in states, use on a extended trip like that a resale at end with the obvious depreciation loss but could be cheaper than hiring?

The Cadwell racing though, there has to be some stuff done to that Versys engine...right?

I've always wanted to ride Mexico. Definitely on the wild side.

The dream trip would be to just keep going and ride all the way thru South America too. Man, what an adventure.

My latest 'dream' bike is the new multistrada. It's not a very good dirt bike either.

Bellingham, Wa to the Florida keys. Taking about 30 days to do so. Seeing the sights along the way.

I forgot to mention that on that dream ride, my dad would be riding with me. And in this dream he would be able to ride long distance without discomfort.

I think with us, there is a couple classifications of dream trips: Those that will most likely only be a dream and those we *might* be able to take.

A trip around the globe would be mine. I guess one would think of Charlie & Ewing. That will never happen unless I win the lottery and retire :-)

There are several others I want to do someday. We were able to ride the Swiss Alps last year, and clipped France & Germany. That was probably a once in a lifetime experience for us.

I, like some others, would like to ride all the way to Prudhoe Bay from Georgia.

We went to New Zealand about 3 years ago, before I started street riding and that would be a great place to see again, two up as Kiwi41 can agree with.

We still think about British Columbia and that north western area of the USA, along with Spain and Australia round out the top 3-4 places.

Oh so many places to see and not enought time & money :-)

I think there would be lots of factors in that one. If it was only a week, probably a rental would be the best unless you are wanting to off road. I was helping a fellow inmate over at ADVRIDER who wanted to come over from Switzerland for 3-4 weeks and ride. The problem was he wanted a dual sport bike so he could ride off road part of the trip & camp, like a BMW GS. Very hard to find a rental that allows offroad.

For street riding, it seems like an average rental rate are $100 - $150 a day, depending on what you get, insurance coverage, etc. Longer rentals equate to a cheaper daily costs.

Some others may chime in, but I would also guess it would be difficult for you to get the required insurance for the motorcycle if you bought it here and just wanted to ride if for a few weeks.

If you did decide to rent, one place is Eagle Rider which is mostly Harley Davidson, but they have other makes depending on location.

Also, Admo-Tours is another we looked at when we went to Switzerland.
