New Versys and First Mods

Picked up my new black 2010 V a couple of weeks ago and it is everything I wanted in a bike. Nice and comfy, easy to commute on and a lot of fun in the twisties (not that you lot didn't already know this).

As with most people I couldn't help but get the tools out and personalise it a little. Removed a few unwanted bits and put on a peg lowering kit and Evotech rad guard. Will let my bank balance recover for a little while then do a few performance mods like new exhaust and maybe a Power Commander.

Start with this:

Remove this:

and voila:

Seriously though. Thats a real nice start to a naked bike.

Here are my suggestions, which count for exactly 0.00 when it comes to what you do with your own bike. Get rid of the rear fender and the tall mirrors. You might also want to do some cleanup work on the front end (windscreen area) to make it look more factory/intentional. Swapping out the stock exhaust can will drop another 10 lbs or so.

These bikes are a lot of fun to modify. Have fun and keep us posted.

The V shares a similar subframe with the 650r which has no additional braces and still supports 2 up riding. The trellis braces on the versys may add a little rigidity, but are not neded to support the riders weight. They are mainly to give the passenger a place to put thier feet.

Thanks for all the comments. Would love to do a tail tidy, but unfortunately they are a legal requirement in Australia and removing them gives the boys in blue a good excuse to pull you over. I have made it a little better by removing the extra piece they put on it presumably for the Aust market (that big black thing in the top left of my parts pile pic). Might get the dremel and sand paper out on the weekend and give it a little trim so it is smaller but still looks factory.

Will start investigating mirror options as that is going to make a big difference to the looks. Ultimately I would love to make it look like the Wrench Monkees V, but that might be a while away yet...
