It is fun to be outrun!

Hi

Just to feedback on something that has been fun since it started.

On leaving my premises to go to work at mornings at about 2km after small town cross there is a stop red light and after that one the open road for about 8km.

Often another bike pulls down at that stop sign. Being mostly hot blooded people in a hot summer country, drag racing is on.

So until today I accounted for:

- Outrunned by a honda cb600 hornet, 1up on the versys, 1up on the honda (100bhp, 47ftlb) after 135km/h, he was not able to take off far
- Outrunned by a ktm 990 adventure 2up, 2up (106bhp, 73,8ftlb) after 120 km/h, he was not able to take off far
- Outrunned by a ducati monster 695 1up, 1up (with sports exhaust) (73bhp, 45ftlb) after 130km/h, he took off far
- Outrunned by a kawasaki z750 1up, 1up (104,5bhp, 57,5ftlb) after 140km/h, he was not able to take off far (and then we greeted, as both kawi owners!)

So instead of sad I am really happy! none of them would cross me on the quarter mile /0-60mph! any of those are more powerful engines.. I was a bit surprised on the ducati though (for fastness). also noticed 1up or 2up on the V does not change things a lot in accel!

IŽll keep updating this msg to add in more versys outruns just for the fun!
hehehehe

So what you guys make of it?

Yeap! We get quite a numbers of bikes pulling along side near junction, but I never bother about pulling away.

I take care of my ride and be safe for another day to ride. even if someone tells me the V is the worst bike, I am happy, cause the V IMHO is the best bike I had and will have.

Bikes are fun, but I LOVE dusting the little sport tuner guys in their Honda Civics & Subarus. I work with a young man with an '09 Suby WRX. He's spent upwards of $3k on exhaust & other performance upgrades, including driving it to Dallas to have it dyno'd & tuned by a professional shop. He's lined up next to me a few times & can never hang off the line. I love it.

Not that I drag race or advocate such behavior in any way shape or form....

It's even funner when I pop it up in second & pass him on the back wheel. The funny thing is, those guys must have their own set of hand signals, cause he keeps raising his hand with the middle finger up. I wonder what he means... I always wave back, though....

More fun is to catch up with the guys on the big bikes in the twisties and see them trying to keep up once you pass them.

My brother bought an 10 HD XR1200R. They look like hell in pics, but are a pretty neat machine in person. I had a chance to run with him last weekend, We ran quite a bit of straight boring blacktop. Twice we opened em up some. Riding standard offset (him in left side of line, me in right about 2-3 yards back) we lit em up. We ended with me and the V about 10 yards back at an indicated 116.
Overall the XR1200 has more hp and torque as well as a slighly better hp/weight ratio.
The V doesn't look all that great on paper, but it performs pretty well.

I think it's funny when people want to race to the red light. What really pisses them off is when they win, but I ride past them as it turns green............

2005 50cc scooter, 2007 GS500f, 2008 DL650 Vstrom,
I'm here for my wife's V . She lets me Farkle her Ride. No Diamonds for her, but shiney stuff for the bike is Okay

I don't want the V to drag race

A bunch of bikes and not enough space...
