I don't want to scratch my paint and I know it's a matter of time if I don't do something to protect the tank, but I never could figure out how I felt about tank pads. Are they teenager-tacky or are there ones that really complement the bike? Who makes nice ones? Are there other options for protection?
I absolutely agree! And yours is stunning. Me, I'm a little on the quiet side and I don't think I could pull this off. Plus my wife might divorce me and I can't afford a divorce and a motorcycle payment.
Unless you dress like an Urban Cowboy with a HUGE belt buckle, or have a fashion preference for rind stones, they are more likely to be decorative than functional. They do make them in clear if you want to go for the understated look.
Check out Mag-Knight's website, they make excellent magnetic tank pads, which make it easy to remove for cleaning. I like black or faux carbon fiber. I've used them on the last few bikes I've owned.
I got a set of the Tech Spec pads, and they are nice. More than protection for the tank, I really like the grips on the side of the tank for gripping your knees when needed.
