GPS for making your own routes

I have a Garmin Nuvi 1350 for the car and it works fine. But on the motorcycle, I take secondary roads and Scenic Highways and Byways, not the Interstates, and would like the flexibility to plan my own route, preferably just tracing my finger down the map. Any suggestions? Is anything out there easy to program without costing $800? Thanks.

If you already have a Smartphone
add the app MyTracks or equal for viewing and recording.

1. Use Google maps to create your special route and create a link for the route.
2. Paste the link here http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert?convert_output=gpx to create GPX file.
3. Save the GPX file to your PC
3. Send/copy the GPX file to your smartphone and then view while riding with the My Tracks app

If you want to make complex routes in the field on the fly I don't know.

I'll have to give that tyretotravel a shot. The Garmin Basecamp software isn't the easiest thing to use.

Been able to 'make' routes for my Nuvi 550's on the Garmin website, then upload them to the unit.

I plan my routes on Google maps and then create a custom route on my nuvi 765T. I make my waypoints intersections. I put Google maps on terrain view so I can see the hills as well as the curves.
