The FAA prohibits the mono-vision contact lenses, and I think also the bifocal contacts. I personally would be leery about wearing them for any activity requiring good spatial orientation such as motorcycling.

I AGREE:

TWO of the guys I went to school w/ died at 18 to 20 years of age - one had a heart-attack while walking down the street, the other one drowned. "Getting OLD"... sounds like a MUCH better deal!

And it's probably a good thing the FAA regulates this.

But last I checked I've been riding, not flying, and having been riding for 20 years with glasses, single-vision contacts, and multi-focal contacts, I'm pretty sure I have no worse spatial orientation with any of them. Maybe it's more of an issue depending on the kind of correction required, but for simple near-sightedness, they all work fine.

Oh, and I'm sure it's much worse if a pilot can't read their instruments than if I can't!

Happy new year! Let me put this in perspective, so to speak. Getting old is awesome! 9 years ago I was 47 and found out I had carcinoid cancer. Getting old was suddenly not guaranteed. Itís deadly. Everyone I know with this cancer is now dead. I have no evidence if disease, thankfully. Before I went into surgery that opened me from my sternum to my nether regions, a doc asked for my advanced directive. I told him that hell yes I did! I told him to keep me alive because I have so many people left to piss off! He obliged. So, continue getting old, my friend! Bitch about it everyday, but get good and old while youíre doing it! And keep pissing people off!

I wear an Arai CT-Z - an amazing 3/4+ hemet that is comfy and offers lots of protection and my radio fits perfectly. Iím myopic with astigmatism. I have no-line progressive bifocals. Without glasses, I cannot walk, let alone drive of ride. With them, I can read IRS notices. 🤨 I do wear Silhouette glasses, which are titanium frameless, and stupidly expensive but they slide on easily around my face in my helmet and you donít know theyíre on. If itís too sunny, I have prescription Persols or I change my visor. My visor is lightly tinted by Arai and I can wear it day or night. Perfect combination most times.

Remember, getting old is so much better than the alternative! 😋

I'm glad you made it!

One of my good friends is going into hospice for cancer. He has maybe 3 months left now. He's 58 yrs old. Great guy, great family. Two years ago any of us would have been jealous of his physical condition.

Getting old sucks but it beats the alternative.

Thanks. I was lucky enough to have the best doctors. Sometimes thatís not enough. Cancer doesnít care. It kills babies too. I will keep your friend in my prayers. Life really is an amazingly unexplainable state of existence - but it does have an expiration date.
