It does make me think about the response of the foam in the helmet at low temperatures. I assume that both the DOT and Snell do not specify a low temperature for testing.
Either way it would seem that the foam will not be so brittle as the plastic housing, but it may behave differently than the tests that show that your brain will not be injured...
Snowmobile helmets are the same thing as a motorcycle helmet. Also my ski helmet uses the same foam as my motorcycle helmets.
