Default versys vs. ninja 650r seat

Why.....could someone tell me why the versys rear seat pooches up so much higher than the way flatter ninja 650r rear seat please?

Any way to change the versys seat so it looks, and rides lower, maybe even near flatter than that superbike type pillion that currently exists?

I know some of those custom seats might address that, but geez....I am an old retired guy with money in my pocket, but not so much as to buy one of those 500 buck delivered babies!

Reason being, wife wants to ride comfortably, but not up there in the 3rd story

Ninja 650r seat is not comfortable for copilot

Seat of Versys in much better.

I beg to differ with the cheap part, it's inexpensive NOT cheap. Well made and good quality.

Did you have them install it for you or did you DIY? I am thinking of buying the cover and foam and DIM. I've done an "undressing" of the rear seat of my former bike and re-covered it when I traded it in... just stapling it all around the plastic frame. I wonder if it's that easy on the V.

Remove the cover from that back. Cut the foam flat. Put the cover back on. I suggest an air stapler for that last task.

If you flatten the pillion seat it seems like it has to be more comfortable than it is now. It looks like it was shaped for style more than comfort.

An upholstery shop could probably do that all for you. Or do something better.

I just took the old seat and new foam/cover to an auto upholsterers... It cost me 30 bucks ...

Excellent point! But compared to what a Sargent seat would've cost me to buy and ship to Canada....the SC seat was a steal, lol ;D

Well.....NO!
I bought an absolutely wonderful Versys WITH factory bags and other extras like brand new tires, brand new sprockets and chain, plus other stuff too for $3150.

Triumph Scramblers stripped do not even exist in that price range.
Besides the fact that the Versys outperforms the Scrambler in every single category execpt looks

Also the Scrambler was better at keeping your right leg warm in the Winter (Summer too I expect).

My impression from a 1/2 hr ride was the Scrambler would be a blast to putt around town on, and would make a great second bike. But I was afraid I might not like traveling on it and had concerns about having it for my only bike. The Versys makes a great only bike.

OTOH if your wife wants to sit lower, maybe a scrambler or a cruiser wouldda been better.

I solved any pillion comfort issues on my Versys like this:

Fixed it for you

Another idea: if you gotta have only 1 bike, and need better passenger accommodations: Sell the Versys (for as much or more than you paid?), and buy a used DL650 Wee Strom.

It will be bigger and less agile, but it's a versatile bike as well, and I expect it's better suited to carrying a passenger.

We have a couple of bikes that were bought for very specific reasons.

Do not want any more at this point.
And do not want a cruiser...it's just not my style.

Both of us have lots of years and many miles of riding experience together,
and she has sat on a high pillion for many, many hours at a time.

It is just that as she is approaching her late fifties, after not riding the last 3 years,
that high seat reminds her of our sportbike days flying down the highway at over
130mph courtesy of Mr. CBR1000

Maybe just riding the Corbin seat R100GS might be the thing to do,
and keep the V just a solo rider. She already has ton's of miles on the
airhead and always has been very comfortable.

cannot change, the subframes are not the same, tried putting my friends 650r seat on my versys, the baseplates are not compatable with the angle of the pilot/passenger.

why is it higher? my guess is aesthetics... versys sold to people wanting an "adventure bike" and they need to see things like luggage capabilities, tall suspension, a generally tall bike overall.

I tried to squeeze a Ninja seat onto my versys

oh yes....is snapped in with some help

BUT..........dang it, it will not come off easily

I turned the key, it would not quite turn enough to release

I needed 3 hands and a couple of good pushes and grunts

does it fit???----well, it will go on

how's it look?----about an inch short in the front around the tank
it has a GAP I would call it. And it looks like more gaps on the sides

how's it fit in the rear?----I have no idea because my ninja base seat was shortened 4-5- inches

so, it fits on the rails,
it will come off, but not easily
it looks like crap

I may just cut down the Versys seat ans whack off the excess in the back area

You can add spacers to the latch part on the bottom of the seat. It might solve the latching issue, but won't solve the length part.

david.....you are riding a Scrambler as one of your bikes, right?

I do love the looks, and have been considering one for several years, but just never pulled the trigger.

Not that I am a speed demon or anything, but I have heard they "are somewhat down on power"

I really do not want a cruiser type bike or cruiser type performance

What do you think about it?

Yes and no.

They aren't that powerful but with the flat seat and the peg placement more forward than the Versys, if you accelerate hard, you have to hold on. Anymore power and I might want a different seat or the pegs moved back a little.

I think FI models have a little more power than carb'd. And the one I rode was probably remapped for the Arrow exhaust.
