Default The OD green versys

is in the works.

my inspiration:
http://www.unfinishedman.com/wp-cont...r-Diesel-1.jpg

first piece painted (gas tank will be the hardest and last):

waiting on a new windshield, its a medium height wide windshield I got off ebay, supposedly made by 7jurock, although
I don't see it in their website. It looks like the stock windshield but wider/more square/less tapered at the top. The best
part is that I don't have to tell the DMV or insurance about the color change green is green!

Looking really good, I think that's a great colour on the Versys.

Love that look. There is a OD KLR and a Desert Sand KLR running around Phoenix. Only problem (at least for me) is that they blend in to the background here. I already feel like a target on my red V. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Oops, I wanted to ask where you got the hand guards with the turns signals in them? This is the first I've seen those and I want them.

What paint are you using... professional or rattlecan?

@ Claypgn they are multistrada handguards, they have led blinkers integrated into them. The multistrada uses unconventional hand controls which makes it very difficult to attach them to the motorcycle, which is why I only have one mounted. Still working out he best manner for the left hand guard.

@ Calico Jack:
I am using Rustoleum rattle cans =) I did this once before on my old motorcycle with very good results (different color though).

Right now what I am doing is dry sanding the surface of the stock plastic, cleaning it up with soapy water and degreaser, priming it, wet sanding, and then painting it. I think maybe 3 to 4 light coats of primer, just enough for full coverage so that it doesn't show the green through after wet sanding. The pic is 3 coats of paint. I am going to move on the rest of the bike while I let it fully cure, then I am going to sand it one last time and re-coat (possibly some type of non-gloss clear coat if I can find it).

front fender removed, probably the most complicated geometry on the bike:

dry sanded and cleaned up:

two light coats into the priming process

primer done (and wet sanded):

after two light coats of paint:

one piece closer to my goal:

Just FYI I'm sorta skipping through the process with the pics, there were additional steps that I didn't represent with a photo because the changes were too small to show visually.

The olive drab color is very subtle, in pictures it almost looks the same as the primed unpainted piece, but holding a primed piece and painted piece next to each other it is very noticeable.

I agree it was a great color, but it doesn't suit this bike in my opinion. They ought to put all their super sports in that color instead of the gloss plain green. Never seen a metallic quite like it.

Nice, love the new look. If mine wasn't red I'd seriously consider it.

military colors such as olive drab, coyote tan, etc have an ultra-matte look and the color is subtle, at a glance you might mistake it for primer unless you have seen it before.

Side by side, the difference is easier to see. The shade of green seems to depend heavily on the ambient lighting as well.

Yes with the better light and side-by-side, it looks really nice. Would be good to see it in sunlight when it's all done!
